  • there you go...just sellotape a bogroll over it

eddie is light - he'll be fine

  • It looks much worse than it really is in the picture, it's really not that big at all. You are overreacting too much, it's only a small dent. I am not the worlds richest man, I just want a nice frame to ride.

Beautiful, but a new top tube is only £75 from Mercian, it's doesn't have to stay dented.

  • I really can't imagin it will make that much difference.

Everyone always goes on about strong this, bullet-proof that (reminds me of that bsnyc about the goldplate frame).

I understand why crazy james might need something 'bullet-proof', but for the most part there is no need for most of this over-enginering on bikes ridden around LDN. Its basicaly just marketing.

If it breaks fix it... but I'll put a tenner on that it won't.

  • Even a completely rusted Brooklyn still live to another days.

    Reminds me of this

  • it will someday fold up like a coke can. could be the first day you ride it, the day you don't see a large pothole or the day after you sell it to somebody in a couple of years time.

except the beemer looks fuckin awesome.

  • Nice job Eddy.

there's the thing, if it bend, chance are it'll bend the downtube as well as likely to damaged the lug, and who know, the headtube end up bending to the point that the front wheel touch the downtube and instantly flip the rider over the bar catapulting a simple £75 repair to a £200 (estimate) repair or worse, beyond repair.

a bit of an unlikely situation, but still.

  • Just added an BMX headset (temporary), BB and crankset, the crank is pretty much a tight fit being a couple millimetres away from the chainstay, but it's fine, I think.

The clearance of the 700c wheel with 28c tyres is spot on, I'm now thinking it's not worth building a 27" wheelset for it (the wheels is for illustrated purpose, the spacing is 110mm and the hubs is 120).

  • ...and for the record sometimes deliberate rust can be appropriate and look good:

corten buildings seem a bit naff now... im never too keen on design that is propped up by quirky material usage.

on the whole clearcoat issue... isnt this just down to the quality of the product applied?

  • it's a Nakasawakifxie, aren't they made in the fires of mount fuji by ninja's and therefore awesomely indestructible?
i read that on the internet somewhere.

  • Edscoble, how many bikes do you own sir?

"gorgeous Batavus" the forerunner to Gorgeous Baby Blue?

  • That Holdsworth is lovely. And like any path racer needs mudguards.

Ed - are you fitting mudguards? and if so, which ones are you looking at?

  • Even a completely rusted Brooklyn still live to another days.

if you want a 'theft proof' finish like this, without riding it in the pissing rain for a year, you can acheive it overnight with vinegar....

i think that brooklyn is far too rusty though.... it looks a bit deep set to me.

all you need is a slight covering of surface rust, which is only cosmetic... and can be cleaned up easily if you ever want to re paint it.

i've just built up a beater/run around bike with this effect.

it was fresh bare metal yesterday, and this morning it looked like this.....

it's quite easy to keep the rust under control with a bit of wire wool every couple of weeks.

  • i have purposely rammed a huge dent in my downtube from my beaterbike (got it for free) to make it barspinnable and i can still jump stairs with it, a tube can take a huge dent and can still take a beating

(getting a new frame next month though)

  • ^^^the more i think about it... the more it affects me. wtf?^^

  • picked this up last night, 20mile cycle in the dark with it on my back but worth it

sorry about the shitty phone pic. Paul Mines, 653 tubing, wee bit too small though so may only last a couple of weeks but i like the hot pink!

  • Update on the LoPro. Sorry for the crap picture, will get some proper ones done when it's finished, hopefully next week.
Just waiting for the Italian Lockring, some black bar tape and some new allen key skewers to come in the post (damn strikes!).

    Before:

    Now:

It's an ambrosio disc wheel, running 53:16 as a magic ratio (I know, but I can handle it!), will probably rebuild the front wheel radial at some point. Pretty happy with how it's coming together. It's an awesome bike to ride.

  • Just got back from picking up my Plume Sport frame - having had some repairs to the seat-tube done.

Before (not a very good pic unfortunately):

    And now:

I really don't want to blast the frame again as it's old steel. Maybe if i could find somewhere that could do it gently with glass-beads i would. But for that reason i'm not sure i can get it powder-coated, and instead i'm gonna have to settle for wet-paint.

Most blasters use glass beads. Sand blaster are only usually used for heavy industrial stuff.
