  • Ha, nice one man looking forward to the final producto.

  • by replica you mean....."I used the same colours"

And gum wall tires. I see what he's done, I don't think it's bad. Not great, but not bad.

  • Finished until I get new stem and bars up there. :)

Cheers for noticing that mate, I had a right nightmare finding tyres in 26 x 1 1/4" with gum walls and a nice smooth tread pattern. Also I butchered 3 levers trying to get one to fit the odd sized bars only to end up using the original with a reversed cable routing (these levers are designed to slide on so it took me about an hour to fit it to the bars that I had already taped up). Took about another hour per wheel masking up the rims, spoke nipples and hubs to paint the spokes black.

I know it's not a perfect replica, It's only a budget build but I thought some people on here might be interested in seeing it.

    haha.
Whatever my arse. It looks nothing like the Merx above it. Different geo, drop outs, tubing, colour, size and build. Whats a replica about it??? Seriously...

If you want to get anal it's Merckx. ;)

nice one Ved, looks like you really enjoyed the build and rightly so too, it looks fabulous.

  • You panted the spoke nipples? Are you still able to true the wheels?...

He said he masked them. What paint did you use? I guess it would have to be pretty flexible; spokes must bend a bit under impacts and hard cornering.

I know that if I really, really lean into a corner hard I get a bit of contact with the brake pad on the outside edge for a split second, and my wheels are pretty solid.

Just used some cheap rattle can black I had left over from doing my car. I figured I'd just touch them up as they get chipped/scratched. + The spokes were pretty old and grey galvanised ones. Don't think it would last 5 mins on stainless spokes.

  • You panted the spoke nipples?

  • I put some new handlebar tape on my sports bike.
