When I mentioned to a colleague about getting a frame sandblasted they were really shocked.
"Bead-blasted!! NOT sand-blasted."
This guy does a lot of classic motorbike renovations and I trust his advice - does anyone know if he is right / chatting mess?
(Glass beads for bead-blasting, which is less abrasive than the alternatives)
Will sand-blasting damage a fillet-brazed frame for example? -

We have a bead blaster at work and it gives a much nicer finish and is less brutal than a sand blaster.

cool - thats just the kind of first-hand information I was after.
For very thin-walled tubing it might make a difference I suppose?
I will play it safe with the caygill.. -

personally i think you are stupid for sandblasting a perfectly good frame, for no apparent reason.
It was starting to rust up.
Regarding the bead blasting I talked to the sandblasting guy about this since I was concerned about sandblasting thin gauge SL. Sandblasting guy told that he hears this a lot and it's rubbish, that the amount of metal removed via sandblasted in negligible and is not going to affect the structural integrity of the frame. Additionally I was told sandblasting will give a better surface for painting.
2nd hand info so take from that what you will.

The guy who painted my frame (Azzy Paints) insisted that I did not use a sand blaster as the finish is too coarse to spray and leave a nice finish. I'm now making a bit on the side blasting bits for him. Ssssshhhhh don't tell my boss!

Sand blasting is used as a generic term.

Historically, the material used for artificial sandblasting was sand that had been sieved to a uniform size.

and i did also read this bit
Other materials for sandblasting have been developed to be used instead of sand; for example, carborundum grit, steel shots, copper slag, powdered slag, glass beads (bead blasting), metal pellets, dry ice, garnet[1], powdered abrasives of various grades, and even ground coconut shells, corncobs, walnut shells, and baking soda (sodablasting) have been used for specific applications and can produce distinct surface finishes.

Armourtex use a number of different blasting/bathing techniques to prep a frame, depending on what it is and what condition it is in
- 1 on the Walnut, thats what gets used on my custom bikes, and its eco friendly

He might be a specialist and therefor returned to 'Mr'
Either way, I have no idea what a man of any education is doing living in Newcastle.
