I still cannot believed you actually sell those and went for two aerospoke! two! it's must've been somewhat of a burden after a few months.

... just have to make a few adjustments, and re-tighten everything.

Have decided on white bar tape. The saddle is just too old and dark to take brown tape on the front. Its not going on untill I'm happy with the bar set up.

Also just got the email from wiggle to say my white rubinos are coming :)

  • Don't really know anyone on here but this forum has given me so much knowledge/info it only seems fair to show what I'm doing! Thanks to some nice forum members for most of the parts of this build.

    Presto '80 531 frameset, C-Record BB/headset
    Campag Record Pista chainset
Campag SuperRecord front hub / Mavic CXP33 rim
Rolls Due '98 saddle (kind of a shame the details aren't silver, doesn't look quite right)
Rear wheel I bought on the cheap to replace a stolen one

To come soon: shiny drops, campag seat post, crank dustcaps and (not so soon) a rear wheel with campag hub.

  • ^ that looks sweet - it'll be even better once you've got those drops on.

  • Very nice hanged_up. Is that a Lithion on the back?

  • Thanks, yeah I know those bars are a bit offensive but it's all I have for now and I need to ride it! The tyre is a Vittoria Rubino. Not sure how I feel about the look of it, I thought it'd look great with the white details on the frame but maybe it'd look neater with plain black.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean.

I've got some white rubino's on the way as the ones on mine are perished to fuck. Now I'm not sure if white wheels, tape and cables isn't over kill.

  • IMO gum walls go really well on old red frames. Just haven't heard of any which are on par with Vittoria Rubino's*

*I'm hoping someone will correct me.

  • Got my 1st saddle re-covered. What a beauty!
Real leather and it´s already a brand new saddle, really happy with this result.

Hugo7 I think your bike looks sweet, but white tyres would spoil it

  • I agree. White bar tape is horrible too. It looks awesome for about a week then looks shit.

  • I bought my girlfriend an electra beach cruiser a few months ago for her birthday, she has now got into cycling but needs something a bit easier to use around the city. She is looking to try riding fixed and and wanted me to convert something for her. A major thing is she wanted a bike that didnt have the sloping top tube like most ladies bikes, she is only about 5"1" or so and we thought it would be a prob finding a suitable bike. Long story short we called into the little bike workshop on the end of our street and found this. Got it for £20 and it is in perfect working order. I'm going to convert it to single speed tomorrow until i work out how to sort out a 24" fixed rear wheel :). I will be keeping the parts to return it to geared should the need arise. Pics of conversion tomorrow.

my gf and i spent a couple of hours today converting to s/s and giving it a good clean. these are the results.

After a test ride today i will be changing the brakes to bmx type leavers on the top of the drops. got new white wall tyres comming tomorrow and i will be getting a flip flop hub to be laced to the original rim.

  • Awww his and hers! :D
