@glockhart !!!! That's genius. All the old suicide hubs suddenly have value.
That has to be a candidate for the best invention ever thread.

I bought my girlfriend an electra beach cruiser a few months ago for her birthday, she has now got into cycling but needs something a bit easier to use around the city. She is looking to try riding fixed and and wanted me to convert something for her. A major thing is she wanted a bike that didnt have the sloping top tube like most ladies bikes, she is only about 5"1" or so and we thought it would be a prob finding a suitable bike. Long story short we called into the little bike workshop on the end of our street and found this. Got it for £20 and it is in perfect working order. I'm going to convert it to single speed tomorrow until i work out how to sort out a 24" fixed rear wheel :). I will be keeping the parts to return it to geared should the need arise. Pics of conversion tomorrow.

That's brilliant mate! The other alternative is the 650c fuji track And the IRO Mark V HD that also designed for 650c wheel for. People under 5'3, that pug is much better cheaper alternative.
if the rims is fine, just rebuild the wheel with a fixed hubs.

cheers, she loves it and i think it looks cool. Its tiny but looks like an adults bike :). Do you know of any where i can buy a fixed rear wheel to fit? (the ones on it are 24", but there is quite a bit of clearance once the mudgueards are off.) googled and done a few searches but not found anything. scratch that just spotted the bottom line of your post lol.

I was thinking more Swansea than Scotland, I live in Cardiff so it's closer.
!NHattattatcktta: Don't suppose you have a 24.8 seat post lying around? I will pay several Princess Diana commemorative plates for just one 24.8 seat post.
I will have a look.
Maybe that's what the JT has, actually. I'll look at that too.

My friend Thomas visting from NY has the same frame in maroon and he said that BJ had done a great job. I know technically black isn't an option for this frame but with this saddle and Italian flag bar tape - its going to look good - still looking for a stem, rims and gum wall tires - all told it came to less than six hundred pounds. Which is still alot but a lot less than buying one new. Thanks guys X

thing about wheels, is that they needed to be build.
all you need to do is find a hub (system ex for instance), new 24" rims if the old one isn't good enough and take it to the bike shop to be build.
that's all there to it, you're highly unlikely to find a 24" fixed wheelsets out there.

thats the plan, i built it up as a bit of a ghetto single speed tonight (just using the origonal cassett sp?) going to get a flip flop hub, a rim and have a wheel built. thanks for the input.

Oh do be wary about the labour cost of wheelbuilding, some shop do it at a respectful £25 (average in London methinks), whether some charge a whopping £50.
-
• #13849
Dale'll do it for a tenner, he may also get 'round to building you a wheel if yer lucky...
