SWEET heads off to post in porn thread -

hubs usually stripped if it wasn't tightened properly, I almost stripped my Miche due to not tightening the cog properly before tightening the lockring.
Well this has happened twice to me now on cheap system ex with thier alu lockrings they provide. I can assure you the sprocket and ring were tighter than a nuns..........All it needs is a solid steel lockring and no more probs. -

what bars em dey?
Cheap old risers. -

Looks great Jase!
You got an spare parts left over from the builds to donate to the 'thieving bastards stole my bike, I need a new one' fund? And when are you next up to ride on pavements made of gold?
Yo Tim. Shitter about the bike dude. I'm afraid most of my parts are either waiting to go on something or circulating amongst family and friends. Fuck. Maybe I should call in all my bits and open a bike shop out the back of a van;) Up in the smoke soon. I'll holla your name from the top of the gherkin. Prick those rashers of bacon up!

If I can't find some Campag Omega 19 black in 32 holes, I'm going to get a Mavic Open Pro CD in 32h.

Result, I've managed to reduced the weight of my bike from 19lbs (8.6kg) to 17.5lbs (8kg), all it take is a different wheelset (front DP Swiss 1.1 with low flange miche, rear is condor hubs with Mavic Open Pro), a titanium stem and a Charge Knife saddle, it's pretty ugly, but I honestly don't care.
A pretty good weight lost, considering that OTP track bicycle that weight similar costing £1500.The next thing to do is to get a Thomson seatpost instead of the ugly steel one that I currently have, I might add some clipless pedals but I still prefer to ride with normal shoes.

If your seatpost is made from steel (!) then swapping that out will be a weight saving... whether it's a £60 Thomson or a £15 brand-whatever.

thomson ftw, once you ride one you'll only ride them -

the seatpost come from a genesis road bike! a 188g Thomson should make a little difference (a little because I cut the black seatpost shorter, thus weighting 290g instead of 317g).

• #13618
well done ed, now your bike weighs the same as my moderately priced steel road bike. with gears and heavy wheels.
what are those brick lane bjs? 631 with 4130 rear triangle?
-
• #13619
only the fork is 4130 as far as I can tell, I know it's not the lightest bike in the world, but it's light enough to not be bothered about the weight when riding.
the biggest difference is the saddle weight, from 525g to 200g.
better than my budget Genesis alu road bike which weight 26lbs (12kg) thought.
-
• #13620
I use rolls saddles, which are quite heavy. but then the saddle is probably the least important component in terms of weight, it's just like having a slightly bigger bum or fatter gut.
-
• #13621

so why all this frantic weighing of components, and buying lighter stuff?
-
• #13622
what I mean is that I no longer feel the weight of the bike when I ride it, not sure how to explain it thought.
-
• #13623
Ed, why aren't you taking me out on a ride on one of those hmm?
It was really a liberating feeling yesterday riding the Gitane for the first time, it felt ridiculously light, and was able to go faster easier and quicker. (For those in the dark, Im new to this 'scene' :))
