I hope your Dad enjoys fitting it. Now, go and get your hands dirty.

Im getting them dirty now, taking off the cloth tape, the amount of dust that is coming out... ewww
Sorry if this is a n00b question, but what can I use to take the glue from the cloth tape off, and polish the headset/handlebars?

Thanks, just did a quick utfs, also can use WD40, which can be used on the rust too.

can use lots of hot water and fairy liquid, does the trick too without burning your hands or getting greasy residue. Use a slightly abrasive cloth , if its going to be covered with bar tape the green scourers work well but may scratch. Bit of elbow grease and bobs your uncle....

Barbecue lighting fluid is best by far....no scratching either.

Okay, well, I have a spare bottle of nail polish remover, will try that first, then probably have barbecue lighting fluid in the shed if the first fails.
Thank you guys for the advice, really grateful, I'm bored, and dying to ride it.

Slightly spur of the moment decision to build a new wheelset for the Fort. Rear has been done for me, hoping to lace the matching front wheel myself.

Nail polish working a treat on removing the sticky residue though requiring a lot of elbow grease! Tried a wee bit on the frame itself and the colour came off! :S

you can use white spirit too, i used it to get all the glue/excess padding off my saddle when i stripped it. works unbelievably well if you just pour some on and let it soak in it for 20 mins or so, just remember not to get any on your hands. latex gloves.

Why remove the gunk if you're going to wrap them anyway?

if you get some on latex gloves they instantly rip apart ;)
white spirit is nothing compared to those paint strippers. Just make sure you don't splash it in your eye and wash your hands well after and you'll be fine.

Exactly, I'm also bored and need something to do. I dont want to put nice brand new tape on some gross sticky residue.
Wish my dad was home already, he knows where all the stuff is kept.

Alec Bird given a new lease of life by Mario Vaz, had to rob bits off my other bike to build up so this probably won't be the final incarnation.

That's beautiful!
I am swapping them for the ones you gave me, just saving them for when I restore the bike, and polish the fuck outta them :P
