Good plan š may try that next time. I burned through a fair bit of my 60 grit sandpaper so maybe Poundland drain cleaner is more economical.
Probably could do with clearing out some of my drains to be fair too so win-win.

This is awesome. Iām keeping my eye out for a frameset like this.

90mm stem added for comfort (Sciatic back pain) but still rides dreamy.
New-ish commuter. 42-18 gearing is a dream and flat bar SSCX is a tonnes of fun to ride!

I really like the day one, very practical, I wish my commute was more single speed friendly.
-
• #120306
My commute atm is 13 miles and is decent on a single speed as its not to hilly. Though my commute is upping to 24miles each way soon as I am moving...so lets see how long the sscx will last.

I had this for a 6 months
It wasn't the distance that got me, it was the hills. When you've had a long day it was knackering. I'm happy to just spin up it now.

Yeah right, Ive got 42x18 which is delightful so that helps.
Maybe drops n clips will help with the distance.

how reliable are these? do they fall apart when skidding if you use them brakeless?
-
• #120310
Utterly ridiculous, I love shit like that. What bike is it for? How will you shift?
-
• #120311
Very cool, is that a touring or cx frame?

Total noob question (I don't know anything about gears). Are all shimano road 9 speed rear derailleurs compatible with all shimano 9 road speed cassettes etc?
-
• #120313
Depending on the size of cassette you may need a long cage derailleur

That's what's on there at the minute but I have no idea if it's neccesary. Is there a rough rule of thumb for judging if you need it?

Better than that, there's a precise formula. Total capacity is listed on the product specification page and service instructions, it is [largest sprocket-smallest sprocket]+[largest chainring-smallest chainring]. For 9-speed Shimano it is typically 29T for SS short cage and 37T for GS medium cage.

Anyone replaced decals on a ti frame before? Anything to watch out for?

Volare is tidy, has the shorter stem helped the sciatica?
-
• #120322
Well it was for my Litespeed Sabre - but i just discovered the frame has cracked (under my awesome power i guess !) so it is new frame time as well. Shifting - i could get an original 2 speed Sturmey quadrant shifter - but i was going to interface it with a modern shifter - but which type will now depend on the new frame. The hub in effect defaults to 1:1 fixed drive with no tension on the cable and when the cable is pulled enough, the shaft engages the planetary system for a 25% reduction - so as long as enough cable is pulled , i think i can get away with a variety of shifters.

Well the 10mm shorter stem and an increase of 5mm spacer underneath has made it less painful. I now dont get off the bike in agony and feel like im 65 y/o. Still a little sore but I guess thats just the nature of a racey frame.

Fitting a 6500 crankset to a 5500 octalink bottom bracket, should be compatible, but can't get the splines to slot in so the cranks are aligned. Can't see any damage on either - am I missing something? Would rather not have to shell out for a brand new bb

theres octalink for road and octalink for mtb, dont know if that could be your problem....!

New 40mm tires on my beater. Quiet like the way it looks!
