Aluminium frames arent a justifiable improvement
Depends on what you're trying to improve and to whom you need to justify it :)

Stiffness is not everything and the weight is often negligible.
Aluminum is inert compared to the elasticity of steel.
It's not so expensive to find good steel frames from the 2000, SLX,SL, Brain, Genius,EL OS Nemo, Foco, Life, Max, Ego, Spirit...
For a road bike steel is real : ) -

Thanks for the offer very kind. The spacers were more for a future upgrade to campagnolo as the shimano 600 headset isn't exactly Italian, I know, daft isn't it but don't want to be limited to the stack height of the Shimano. It's a threaded steerer, in fact all the threads seem in really nice condition. It went to the bike shop to have the bb threads chased and the headset cups pressed, and then the build proper can start next week! Bit annoyed with the shop bit let them off a bit as they don't have the spanner for a 600 headset, but said a 32mm should fit - gulp. It's not been too much this build, mainly thanks to the forum, but getting the frame for £170 was a great start. The guy in the bike shop said I must scour the world for my bikes, I like that and wish it was that glamourous.

Wow that's just mint. Well done! I like the owner of my LBS he's a good bloke but he's employed this lad at the weekends whose the equivalent of Viz's Rude Kid. I'm kind of used to it but have words every time he goes in there and starts running his mouth. It must affect business!

Installed a threadless BB (threads are french), a triple chainset, Campagnolo Avanti shifters + triple FD, Campagnolo Xenon RD running 8 speed 12-23t Miche hubs x Rigida Nova rims.
1" Ahead stem adaptor with 90mm Ritchey stem on ITM bars. Fizik Aliante saddle with Kium rails.
New 700 x 25mm Michelin Dynamic sport tyres, new brake pads, new cables all around, new cork bar tape.Shifting is not mega precise due to Xenon being 9 speed post 2001 and shifters being pre-2001 8 speed but hey.

I held back fitting all the pink parts I own.
The RD arrangement is a bit DIY. The original hanger isn't threaded and if I fit a counternut on the other side, the chain catches on it.
Had to fit a bolt on hanger to get the RD to work.

Finished my touring bike in time to ride to an overnight ferry from Portsmouth next week.
Holdsworth 1982 triath elan 58cm
1st gen 105 sti gruppo
Heavy as hell but fuck it, I’m loading it up.
Thanks to @GBaller for the drops, my wrists would have died on the classic 38cms I had on previously. -

How do you know it's a 26.4 clamp size?
I'm a little bit picky lately but I know you'll enjoy the knowledge. ;)
Apart from in weight, stiffness and price?
