Cheers all.... there was a set of NOS Nervex on ebay for an okay(ish) price but before I pulled the trigger I was wondering if it might be a cheeky shortcut to get a donor frame instead. Always had a thing for Nervex Pro but could never find a frame in my size that matched my (very specific) requirements.
So yeah... I just bought the lugs.
Not that I have any immediate plans to make a frame out them, but it's good to know I have them ready for when I need them!

Buy some cheap standard lugs from ceeway and get some good needle files, a sharpie and a small metal saw (dunno what the English name is). I bet you will be entertained for hours designing your own. There's loads of info and inspiration online.

Someone really doesn't like Richard Sachs... To be honest I agree but for different reasons, ££££ for a canti steel cross frame in a bold colour, it seems like hype.

a small metal saw (dunno what the English name is)
A piercing saw is probably what's needed, although there probably aren't enough long cuts involved in making filigree lugs to make it worthwhile over just drilling and filing.

As fun as this sounds (genuinely) I think I'm the kind of person that would burn through waaaaay too much time dithering around with all the different options. And I probably wouldn't come up with anything as pretty as the Nervex design.
That said, I don't particularly like the Nervex seat lug (or at least the bolt hole) and the ebay set doesn't come with a bottom bracket shell or fork crown, so I'll have plenty of opportunity for dithering with options anyway.
I quite like the fork crown from a Bob Jackson Vulcan:
mmmmmmm, pointless ornamentation! ; )

another question: are there any stainless tubesets available in standard (as opposed to oversized) sizes? 953 appears to only be oversized wherever I can find it on frame-builder's websites.
not that I can afford it anyway, mind.

953 appears to only be oversized
They do make, or certainly have made, 953 in 1" top tube, 1¼" head tube, and 1⅛" downtube and seat tube patterns.

New bag, rack, customised struts, fat rubber, clipless = practical lopro?... :)
Having a lot of fun commuting on this. -

Cool bike, looks like a blast - by the looks of that drop though, you must be a youngster.

cheers @mdcc_tester, i'll keep on digging around.

Thanks.

So rad! I vaguely remember seeing photos of the bike with a white campy disc, is it the same?

• #116339
campy disc
This?
-
• #116340
Nah, khamsin or ghibly, not sure which one so i wrote 'disc'
p.s. found it, such a tasty build:

Winter bike sorted. Needs bottle cages and frame pump obviously. Dynamo stuff at some point probably and maybe new guards as these are a little bit stubby.

Good job matching the yellows.
Nice/10

Didn't you have a red genesis?
-
• #116344
I had (well, still have) a red Pinnacle. I do also have a green and yellow Genesis.
-
• #116345
Right, pinnacle. Sorry. Quite like the black/yellow one above, anyway!
-
• #116346
What are you talking about, that yellow on the wall is butter compared to the lemons on the bike.

Nice! Desticker rims / change constant uphill setup?
-
• #116349
Yeah fit needs tweaking, that's all as it was on my old bike. Reach is identical to my Volare just with 30mm more stack.
The rims are already half destickered but the glue is really tenacious so I don't know if I can be bothered.

That's what I thought.
Wouldn't it be more satisfying to make your own filigree, taking inspiration rather than metal from old frames, if that kind of pointless ornamentation floats your boat?
