  • Current stance. Concorde Squadra with the raddest patina. 1x10 with a nice mismatch of parts. Kept it low key as it's my new lock-up bike. Need to put a chain through the saddle rails and the rear triangle and it's pretty much done (for now).

  • Riser and silver post made it so much better! good job!

  • Thanks man, found some old scratched up XT levers in the parts box & replaced the Soras as well. Muy bueno!

  • That celeste Flite actually is a nice touch, I'm loving it. Sick build. :) Btw what does Fista mean?

  • Trying to get the rear mech set up properly on the Viner, not set up downtube shifters for a while.
Can't get the chain to stay in the largest four sprockets on a six speed block, cable tension seems to slacken off and the chain drops into the two smallest sprockets.
Symptom of too much cable tension ? Cable is fairly slack in the smallest sprocket though. Anything else that could be causing it ?

  • My newly assembled tourer. Got the entire bike for 50quid, 531 magnum tubes, mavic/LX wheels. Mostly XT/LX components.

Got some cheapish gusset forks as they had a similar A-C and then Rob from quirk cycles brazed on some extra bosses on the frame and in the forks.

Few things need sorting, cabling is very messy, unhappy with the stem mounted canti stop, have a newer rear mech to put on and I think may have to move the chainring to the inside of the cranks and put a guard on for a better chainline in higher gears.

Fun though, and super comfy ride with the big marathons.

Need to get some paniers and get touring.

  • Nice. Your rear brake quick release is open. ;)

  • Thanks! Not sure what you mean by rear brake quick release tho?

    edit. you weren't talking to me : ( : )

  • I'd be made up with that if I were you, nice work.

  • edit. you weren't talking to me : ( : )

Hehe. Cool little thing you've got there. I was thinking of getting Marathons, but in the end decided against them due to the weight and stiffness. Do you like them?

Are you gonna repaint/touch up the frame because of the brazed on bosses or keep as is?

To answer my own question if anyone is interested, it appears as though it's the friction shifter that's at fault - Not having enough friction to keep the cable tensioned.
Hopefully it's just the bolt that needs tightening. Otherwise it's take it apart and clean, or worst case there's a part that's missing, worn or incorrectly installed. Time to try to find some exploded Campag friction shifter diagrams

  • cheers, has put a smile on my face today!

  • they are a bit heavy i guess but on a tourer not sure how much that actually matters. they roll really well, can run them pretty low psi so they really smooth out a lot of the bumps and i really enjoy not worrying about punctures when i'm miles from home and on shitty surfaces

will touch up the braze ons, but nothing fancy, just something to keep the rust off. maybe just some primer, quite like that dark red

  • I had a similar problem with some campag friction shifters.. I boshed an additional plastic washer in there and tightened it up and seemed to solve it. Also maybe there's too much / wrong sort of grease in there?

  • The spring in the rear derailleur pulls it towards the smaller sprockets, so what you're describing is a symptom of not enough tension, most likely (as you say) from the shifter slipping.

Assuming it's complete, just do it up tighter.

  • Quick snap - just picked this up

    Which did the trick nicely

  • it's the friction shifter that's at fault

They are always at fault. Get indexed, or at the very least ratchets.

  • They are always at fault. Get Retrofriction.

    FTFY.
