  • Just as well I haven't got one then....

To be fair though it wasn't a bad bike(for the price) when it used to be £405 few years back but now it's £600 for a bike that's exactly the same(yet with inferior tyres) is the reason they've made a big fuck up and last that corner of the market

Also the have changed the cranks from 165 to 170 and the stem comes as a riser now even i know that looks shit.

  • @scott
    this bag is rad

  • The first Pista were Reynolds licensed cromo, have sugino crankset, Mavic CXP22, Dura Ace cog, etc.

now? bog standard component for shitload.

Really, what year was that? I've always known them to have those pissy Truvativ on them...

that stem has always been the same, it's just flipped the other way round, flip it again and you'll see it's perfectly horizontal.

  • actually after done some research on it, the price go up a bit as well as losing good component every years.

I just wanted to get it out of my system and see what it looke like i knew i would have to dump some stuff but no all of it so you would end up with a 600 quid frame.

  • @ scott extra brownie points (see what I did there!) for using brown deep v's and pulling it off!

I went back to Bianchi.com to fetch it for you from their archive, but for some reason they decided to delete that and go as far as 2006 instead, argh, fuck sake.

they put the Truvativ on in 2005 or 2004 I think.

    What year is yours Ed.

  • I've got the front wheel off a 'bianchi pista' as has Ed's missus I believe, and it's alright if a tiny bit smaller than my other 700 wheels? No need for tyre levers.

  • what year is yours ed.

2008, oddly enough the only one to have 2x 28h wheels.

every rims are different as well as tyres, some are a right bastard to install tyres, whether some are piss easy, like the Alex rims from the Pista.

They were powdercoated with the frame. :)

  • that's a fantastic bag mate, one thing concern me is that while the backpack/messenger bag are on your back away from both wheels, wouldn't this bag get unnecessary wet due to mud, water, etc. get sprayed on it? another question is does it get in the way of your legs? partically if it is full and the weight could easily move around left and right.

(genuine question of course, I love to see the development of that bag).

It's not a bag i intend to use everyday really...only for long rides.
I'm hoping the bag isn't really wide enough for the spray to be a major problem...most of it will run straight off because of the angles.
    The zips are shielded too.
Regarding getting in the way, i need to try it out...i may take a half inch off it's width depending how it is when full...the internal divider should stop it being able to buldge out too far though as it pulls both sides in along their length...and again the divider and the amount of attatchment points means nothing should be able to swing about.

As with all prototypes i need to test it a bit first.

  • I can actually see it being use for everyday riding, commuting specifically since it doesn't required a certain rack to be installed on your bike (especially if it wasn't build for one), you don't need to carry it on your back and get sweaty in the hot summer, weight distributing will be equal.

the obvious downside is simply needing to keep the bag flat and limiting it to certain bike.

If it become successful for the DD, I defintely think it worth talking to Joe from BMW about producing a limited run of those bag to be sold with customer's BMW.

Been thinking about these for the last couple of days with respect to dunwich as well, to the extent that I even went and looked in my parents garage to see if the frame bag I had when I was younger was still around; unfortunately not. But it would be really good to have something other than a messenger bag for long rides both for comfort of backs and also i dont think having abunch of weight pressing down on your lower back helps with saddle comfort on ridesover a couple of hours.

awesome idea though, if you want someone to test it on daily basis for a week or so i'd love to give a go!

do you think a folded up pair of trousers a shirt and a towel would fit in it without gettng too squished?

  • woah. holy moly. i haven't got a project on the go, but i suggest if you have, finish it with these motherfuckers:

    odyssey grips/aaron ross.
    rad as fuck.

I've had these on my bike for about a year now. They feel really nice and are hard wearing but the move and slide around the bars a ridicules amount. Even after trying loads of ways of keeping them in place the only thing that has worked is using solid bar ends and putting zip ties round the bars the other side of them

  • Ti.

    nice frames those Ti plugs.
    what forks you going with?

    if you don't like the idea of having to carry a messenger bag, I'm sure a saddlebag should be fine;

  • I seriously think the cat is thinking "What the fuck has he done now?"

  • Following on from the pics of my bars, this is the next stage in trying to achieve a more back friendly Dunwich Dynamo bike set-up. In an effort to move weight off my back i'm making some new bags...first is this frame bag...1000D cordura...pretty simple, 2 compartment design.
I'm gonna take a little bit off the bottom to keep it away from the chainring, and add a small, hanging zip pocket inside for phone/keys/money etc.

Next will be a jumbo saddle bag :)

They look brilliant, I've been looking at getting similar custom bags made in the US for some long mtbing adventures, but its a bit on a nightmare getting stuff imported at the moment. Can't wait until you start selling these, I'll definately get one.

I know getting the width will probably be important, some of the other ones come in 2 widths, normal bikes and pugsleys as they can make them widder and getting widder closer to the handlebars as snow bikers tend to not stand up on the pedals.

  • Frame bags are ace. As daccordi says, they have been used on snow bikes and off road touring for years. I'd be keen on getting one at some point too. some of the really funky ones flare out to about 3 or 4 inches wide at the front and then have another small bag on top of the top tube that velcros to the main bag, which is ace if you want a large volume.

Scott, the one downside of the frame bag is that you lose any ability to carry water on the bike (if your bike ever had bottole bosses) and water bottles can move around a lot in a frame bag which can be disconcerting. This isn't an issue for off road use because people are usually using Camelbaks, but if you don't want to carry a rucksack...

That bag width doesn't look like it should cause ay real problems, IMO.

  • What about a bottle cage mounted under the saddle? I'm sure I've seen those before

  • a project i am working on now, need a lot off stuff for it still, cranks being the most important to get it on the street at least

    Are those disc brake braze-ons?

That frame colour is luverly. Would look great with lots of brown leather.

  • Fitted a 20mm longer and 5 deg lower thomson stem to the Brooklyn now and it's feeling far better for my back...also been playing around with the bars...this is my potential Dunwich Dynamo set up...used to run a similar set up on my Pace when i commuted on it...i'm gonna be greatful of the alternative hand positions if i do the Dunwich again this year.

i strangely like that... good call!

  • no, the frame is made in ca. 1946 the braze-ons were for mudguards, i painted the frame myselfe but it chips very easily even after 8 layers of clearcoat it looked like this when i got it
