Copped some fresh tuna last night. Made tempura with some, which was not entirely successful; not enough oil used/not hot enough. Pan-fried the rest. Made a tartare sauce with pre-made mayonnaise, this brand;
It's misleading. Mayonnnaise does contain mustard, but this stuff is overpowered by it. They do a garlic flavour - this should be called mustard flavour, but instead is their regular mayonnaise. No amount of piquant ingredients could mask the mustard kick. Needed a plain, mellow base so the sharp tartare sauce ingredients could be prominent. Served with boiled potatoes.
Not a classic dinner.

We had vegetable tempura last night, was lovely. key is hot oil and cold lumpy batter.
bbq tonight, trying a couple of new things. Soy and mustard marinated chicken, and parma wrapped shrimp kebabs, along with some classic bangers et al.I have an idea to invite all the lfgss foodies over for a bbq when we've moved into our new place, everyone has to bring an interesting dish - only homemade dishes allowed. New place will easily entertain 20+ people.
We're gonna build a pizza oven too. -

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars oft he condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to NewYork. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

Lovely!
btw the bbq last night was lush, nommed it all before I could take photos though.
tried out a couple of new things which turned out particularly well.
Parma wrapped Shrimp:
Large King Prawns, few cloves of garlic crushed, parma ham, chopped tarragon, chopped dill, drizzle of olive oil.
In a bowl combine the garlic, tarragon, dill and oil and mix is all up. coat each prawn in the mixture, wrap with parma ham and stick on a kebab skewer. cook on the bbq about 5-6 mins each side.Soy and Mustard Chicken:
marinade your chicken in the following: swig of dry white wine, couple of tblsp of sesame oil and soy sauce, big spoonful of dijo, chopped chilli (or chilli oil if you have it), salt/pepper. Mix it all up and stick it in the fridge with the chicken for at least 12 hours. bbq then consume.lovely.

Made our first visit to Gelupo in Soho for some ice-cream earlier. We tried the caramel, pistachio and Thai espresso ice-creams, and the raspberry and mango sorbets. Really delicious, plenty more to to try on a definite return visit.
There's some Belgian chocolate Haagen Dazs in the freezer too.
