  • In other news, I want a hot plate for the top of my stove... I've deffo been watching too many Korean street food videos...

  • Off to Hong Kong at the end of the month. Only got 2 nights there before we hit mainland China.

    What food places are unmissable?

  • @Rich_G will know...

  • hello
@tenderloin will have some good recommendations too.
    cheap eats on the go.
I really like maks noodle on Wellington st. cheap simple no frills great for quick bite when in central.

good cheap dim sum. Tim Ho wan.
there are quite a few branches arround hk. they can get busy and you have to que up but if you go at off peak times it's ok.

    High end. posh .
mot 32 does great duck and dim sum you need to pre order the duck though so email to book in advance.

for Out side cafes / dai pai dongs.
Stanley st in central has a few, temple street and shui po has some. the quality can be hit or miss but the experience is good.

    Yardbird.
one of my favorite places based on Japanese pub yakitori and bits, quite expensive but staff and food are great.

Din tai fung ~ great great dumplings with soup inside and other tasty bits
    samsen
great thai place in wanchai based on boat noodles

Zagin ramen ~ very good chicken based ramen

I'll ask the missis Rich g about more places as I forget places we have been too.

  • there are so many restaurants in HK is crazy. Where are you staying ? Hk island side or kowloon side. I'll get some more places to you . like classic roasted meat places and sea food styles

  • That looks awesome - a mate recommended Tim Hi Wan already so will hit that up on the first night I reckon.
We are staying at the Hong Kong Ramada Harbour View which is about 15 mins walk to Central. So pretty close to most stuff.

Seafood probably just edges the roasted meat style but interested in it all really. Just a bit overwhelmed by the amount of places so want to pick 3 or 4 which we can do in our time there!

  • Can 2nd Yardbird. Had an amazing dinner there. Food, atmosphere and service are all excellent. I see it is on Wing Lok st now though. I remember it being on Bridges St?

The whole area around Tai Ping Shan st is great too.

  • Googled that and found a bunch of other seemingly big brand restaurant with books etc. are also kicking the bucket at the same time Polpo/Polpetto/Spuntino, Pitt Cue all going.

  • I always liked the food, the dumplings specifically, at Ho Hak Shandong on Bury Street. There’s a couple of really good chicken noodle dishes on there too and it’s cheeeaaap.

Where are you going on the mainland?

  • Spuntino’s is closing?!?
Argh, haven’t been for ages but loved that place. Brought the cookbook as well.
Spuntino and polpo were started run by the same guy. Wonder if he’s getting out of the business?

  • Apparently trying to relocate in Soho.

  • Shenzhen, Tianjin, Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai.

  • Bro HMU on WhatsApp 😉

  • It is. Try it out 👌

  • yeah theh were doing so well they moved to a bigger place in wing lok it's still great but it can be a little noisy in the back room. I prefer eating in the bar side. Its still a great place though.

  • @bainbridge struggling with seafood bits on HK side. I'll have a think and get back to you.

  • That’ll be an amazing trip. You’ll get to eat the lot.

My favourite for street food is definitely Shanghai. I and others added some recommendations to a thread in the travel forum.

  • Also dont forget about the cooked food markets thee are some great places, its something I need to do more good read here about them.

  • Wow bbq envy , what is that?

  • It's a Green Mountain Grill (Daniel Boone).

@dancing james has / had one too...

  • Lebanese zucchini soup here, my cheap veg guy turned up with a box of them so I've made a big batch for the freezer... Superb flavour and so creamy when they're blended, yum... Delicious with a sprinkling of blue cheese...
