Bought a whole chicken from the butchers two days ago. Kept it refrigerated with the intention of roasting it today. Smells pretty pungently of pork scratchings. Am I going to die if I eat it?

Did it smell when you bought it? And what's the temp of your fridge?

who buys smelly chicken?!
IME, the smell of chicken on the turn is enough to preclude eating it. Probably won't die but probably will gag.

If you haven’t in a while, make a rice pudding. So much carb win.

Should be at 4 degrees but my 10 month old has developed an obsession with pushing the touch panel on the front that controls it every time we carry him past so it could have been tampered with.
Decided not to risk it in the end and made some crumpets from scratch instead. Shame as it was a lovely looking bird.

Anyone know where I can get cheap flat metal baking sheets without raised edges? Not fussed about non-stick - will mostly be used for preparing canapes etc.

anyone got any recipes/tips for cooking a ham, which isn't on the sweet side?
A few weeks late, but this was the uppermost post of the page when I opened the thread.
Ham - Brined, then smoked, then boiled, with peas. There's a Jamie Oliver recipe that works well.

Thermopen is pretty much as good as it gets for accurate and quick readings
I have a Themopro TP-08 for continual (indoor) monitoring, which does me for roasts
(I have a Heatermeter with a thermocouple and 3 food probes for the bigger outdoor stuff)
