I was at the Crooked Well in Camberwell on Friday and was hurting about the price of the food but was hungry with no sign of going elsewhere. Thankfully the £13 chicken burger was banging. The beef burger looked similarly good.

I'm assuming this is aimed at me.
So sure. Forward on. My feelings haven't changed.. -

Isn't that quite cheap for a main these days? Should've gone to Nando's, m9...

40th birthday, no choice in location.
Price wasn't the issue, size of the portion for the price was!
Just means I'll be spending more time cooking at home.
More bang for the buck.. -

did you leave a decent tip tho?

Defrosting some pork ribs.
Any thoughts on what to have as an accompaniment? Trying to do less rice, it's my default side, thinking I could do some sort of cabbage/greens to cut the richness of the ribs. -

mac&cheese

Out of curiosity did you say anything at the time?
I've felt this pain before, sausage seems to get slightly misrepresented on menus, I now always ask for further detail when ordering.
-
• #26587
nope.
was busy being upset about the portion size and then drinking the last of my partners bottle of wine.. -
• #26588
Fair enough, I'd be pretty frustrated.
Maybe it's fairer to give them a chance to redeem themselves before you blast them on a forum?
I've always found places quite good when I have queried things or ask for a bit extra. They usually don't charge and I then break my general no tipping policy. -

break my general no tipping policy.
why would you not tip?
-
• #26590
Because in my opinion it's a bad practice.
-
• #26591
i'm not sure the people bringing you your dinner / working in the kitchen feel the same. have you ever waited tables for a living?
tip big, tip often. even if it's included on the bill.
-
• #26592
Yes.
Have you read or listened to any of the research on tipping?Edit; for clarity for a living might not be accurate as it was part time.

that it allows restaurant owners to pay shit wages? yeah, so what's new? sadly your principles don't pay your waiter's rent.
always ask who gets the tip if you add it on your card.
leave cash if you have it, you'll be remembered and the next time you come back, you'll be treated like a king / queen.

Payment that isn't taxed or NI'd.
That it's been found to be a discriminatory practice.
It creates an unstable and potentially unsustainable market for labour in the restaurant business.
Countries where tipping is higher have higher rates of corruption. -
• #26595
You don’t tip but often ask for more food. You must be a joy to dine out with
-
• #26596
Very clever you've extrapolated.
-
• #26599
You know, that looked like a perfectly adequate portion size.
2500 calories a day. -

Yay for the voice of public health!
Want me to forward to the manger who is a friend of mine?
