  • ^ Confuzzling... Opposite the 3 shop...

has the argos closed then? you're probably right, easiest thing to know is it's the first deli you come to when turning onto atlantic road from brixton road...

  • There's better out there, but forthe money it's really good i reckon - the £1 wholemeal loaf is tops, that's actually cheaper than a supermarket loaf.

They're peddling chia bread in a shameless jumping on the wholefood bandwagon at the mo, but i wanna try it.

  • funchal also has the best cuppajoe, lully sugar-topped rice cake wotnots and chickeny-potato scotchegg doodads this side of portuland.

  • ^ This... Cake and a coffee for just over two quid?!?

    Artisan coffee and cupcakes ►►►►►►►►►►

  • we went to Gail's in west Dulwich the other day because we're middle class white people and that's just what we do (well at least one of is).

8 notes for two cups of coffee and a cinnamon sphincter. jokez!

  • Did you breeze in there with a double decker pram and a copy of the observer clutched beneath your arm?

Gail's do a mean sausage roll. But would never go in there out of choice, wayyyy to much dosh

  • molotov cocktail and a copy of the socialist worker.

  • molotov cocktail

    Two cherries...

  • Gail's is well overpriced, but some of the stuff there is amazing. Gruyere and leek croissants, the best cookie I've ever had, caramelised garlic bread.

Staying with south east bakeries, is Kindred Bakery still open? I've not seen it looking lively since the Flood.

Forest Gate seems promising for food too. At CoffeeE7 yesterday I had an excellent millionaire's shortbread, then a very good curry at Aromas, which let me take my bike in.

  • Kindred's still there, they've tried to go a bit upmarket but not sure they've succeeded...

I LOVE their little snag rolls, big dollop of onion marmalade in every one... Nom...

  • Is it still next door to Bon Velo? I will have to look closer.

Any word on auntie and her rotis or has she actually gone for good?

  • She's back, you'll find her selling on the street from a big green cooler box... She's either in front of Rebel Soul or Bushman's... Rotis are as good as ever...

  • You've made my day. Should have stayed in Brixton last night.

  • She won't be there today or tomorrow, try her on Tuesday... ;)

  • Is she there in the evenings or on Saturdays?

  • Yup, every day but Sunday and Monday... She was saying something about not doing Wednesdays either, not sure if that was just a temporary thing... She's only got a cooler full of rotis so you may find she's sold out by home time, still worth a look tho'...

  • We need a Kickstarter for a proper premises. I think she'd like Forest Gate.

  • Nah, she's still desperately looking for a spot in Brixton... She got offered a place on Atlantic Road but the Nigerian woman who owns it was asking stupid money...

She's trying to get the chicken shop she was in before, seems smart cuz those clowns that were running it are doing fuck all with it...

  • Went to rawduck in hackney on Friday night. I don't think I've ever had a cloud ear mushroom before but it's pretty delicious. Everything me and my gf ate was so nice, but I fully recommend the aubergine lentil stew and the squid.

I'm not sure what the vibe is but they don't do starters you choose a few pickles and ferments, get some e5 bread, and then you can choose some cheeses and meats too. We went with a Gorgonzola Dolce with honey dressing, the aforementioned cloud ear mushrooms, and the selection plate which was pickled cabbage, daikon, and ginger.

It's a bit like Blanchette in Soho but less French and more I don't know what.

  • What to do with this veal?

  • carpaccio half; tonnato half

  • Ooh, great call on the carpaccio... Rocket, parmesan, lots of good oil and some nice crusty bread... Lish lunch...

  • Going to Soho for a Burger tonight.

Which of the millions of places there is the best bet? Was thinking of going to Honest as the Brixton one is great and can't be arsed to think about it too much, but don't want to miss a trick...

  • Honest is the one.

  • The burger at The Prince Regent in Herne Hill is better than Honest Burger, IMHO...

Order it rare next time you're in the neighbourhood... Trust me...
