Bang! This is what was holding me back - I was about to give up and freeze the lot, for want of a large enough cast iron casserole. Thanks for the pointers!
I went with an old bottle of wine, carrots, orange, chipotle, black cardamom, bay, shallots and young garlic.
Basically, bits that I had hanging around.
[Edit] It's on at about 80 for the next 12 hours.
Sooooon...

I went to the Counter Cafe in Hackney Wick for brunch today.
It looked nice with its canalside setting and coffee roastery, but the prices made me sceptical. Actually it was bloody great, best vegetarian breakfast I've had in London.

Madrid is great. Haven't much time to post here, but some day soon I will go to Segovia to eat a proper Cochinillo, tender enough to cut with a plate.

I took my brother to The Begging Bowl (168 Bellenden Road, SE15: 020 7635 2627) last night having read this review: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/reviews/the-begging-bowl-restaurant-review-thai-streetfood-heaven-in-southeast-london-9553059.html
If this is street food, I don't know what I ate when I visited Thailand - it was exceptionally, literally lip-smackingly good.
Perfect fusions of familiar yet creative SE Asian tangy-sweet-salty-umami-citrusy-creamy-tastes, spices and textures in each dish, enhancing without overshadowing their main ingredients - so making it my ultimate comfort food while also surprising (think lime, garlic, tamarind, coconut, crisp shallot, chilli, coriander etc.)
The menu is pleasingly succinct, offering meat, veggie and vegan (if you specify) dishes (the latter of which was so good my staunch meatlover brother Hoovered it up). Excellent value (dishes between £6 and £13), super wine/local beer list (or BYO) and lovely unstuffy, bright atmosphere (partly due to the open windows/veranda). Heck, I even liked their quiky, colourful tableware (no naff rectangular white plates here) which seemed to have been made to partner the food.
No takeaway service, yet and you can't book ahead so get there early as it fills up completely by 7pm, even on a Monday.
The idea is you choose a few dishes and share, but judging by the customers, it's as good a place for solo dining as for larger groups. Would also be great for a first date.*
Go!

Those last three look so good. Especially the lentily cauliflowery one. Do you have a recipe?
There is a 2nd layer of shallots/mushrooms but I forgot to take a couple of pics during the process
