  • As long as that is 1 sandwich I'm down with it... ;)

  • Oh My God... And I didn't even believe in a god until I saw this sandwich!

  • can't wait for easter

  • odd pic. that could be anything from a mouse to a wildebeest.

  • It's a carpet louse with pin through it

  • Is there anywhere good to eat in the Tottenham Hale/Seven Sisters area?

I suspect the answer is 'LOL'

  • I was surprised by the number of Latin American places in seven sisters, don't know if they're any good though

  • the ferry boat inn, on the stretch between blackhorse road and totty hale isn't too awful...otherwise lol

Looks like that is a chain pub, same chain as the King's Head in Chingford which I wasn't too impressed by.

There is a new Spanish place on the High Road which I will try out, and when I worked at the college nearby a lot of people got Caribbean food from the Bernie Grant Arts Centre cafe.

It doesn't look promising apart from that though.

  • Wanting to make Bahn Mi but not sure if I bought the right meat. Best I could find was this with very very much fat and at €8/kg quite expensive too. Is this just the way it is or should I look further?

  • The cut, which looks like shoulder or belly, should work. However it looks cured, and the word speck has bacony overtones as greenhell observes. You however want fresh, uncured meat.

  • Its uncured and its from the belly so I guess I'm good. Still find it rather expensive for a raw cut lump of mostly fat.

  • Varkensbuik or pork belly is what you need, not that lump of bacon!

Recipe link under picture has a good method

  • Anyone know where I can buy middle eastern cheese? Got a taste for it but can't find anywhere that sells it in the uk

  • ^^ Thanks, I am using that recipe actually! My meat looks almost exactly like the meat on the pictures now that it's cooking, so I'm not worried too much.

^ Try your LTS (Local Turkish Shop) and if they don't have any I bet they know where you maybe able to get some.

  • Triple Answer...

There is an ok Vietnamese called Kinh Do near South Tottenham Station, and there used to be (not sure if its still there) an Ethiopian vegetarian restaurant just up from there too.

Yeah - as above, that looks like some kind of polish cured/smoked belly. I've used that before as a replacement for bacon lardons in pasta etc but its quite strange to work with. Just go to your local butchers and get some Pork Belly. Its worth paying a little more for something that isn't full of saline that you'd get from a supermarket - the difference is immense.

As above - LTS! Green Lanes is amazing. Also making Labneh is super easy, you just need to basically strain yoghurt in the fridge for a few days.

Having lived around there, it is a LOL.

Big Bowl Noodle on Phillip Lane is acceptable.

Marmalade is a nice cafe on Lordship Lane (sandwiches, cakes, and average coffee).

There's a sweet pizza place opposite Bruce Grove station that does pizza by the 1/2 metre. Their pasta isn't too bad either.

Green Lanes isn't very far from there and is a good shout.

  • What are people's pancake plans then? Crêpes suzette here...
