  • Take your pick. But I would say Duke Brew n Que in Haggerston do the best beef ribs I've had. Bodeans not far behind though.

This weekend, I will be trying them at the Flying Pig in Dulwich.

  • I applaud the BBQ boom, haven't tried any of these new places tho'...

Wet BBQ for the win... Interstate BBQ, South Memphis wins every time... Beef ribs the size of your torso...

  • Two nights eating in London this week have left me feeling generally a little depressed and very much lighter in the wallet. Momo off Regent St (not my choice was with mates) was good tasty basic Moroccan food but jesus £7 for a little bowl of babaganoush and £20 for a main of lamb couscous. Delicious but...

Next night up for a burger, looked at five guys couldn't face it as it looked like a cross between wimpy and sports direct, went to shake shack and had a smokeshack, nice of course but more or less what I remember a quarter pounder with cheese from Maccy D's tasting like (although its been ten years since I had one). A tenner by the time you've got some crinkle fries (good crinkle fries though).

I'm not meaning to open a debate about either of these places, I know they will have their detractors, but they left me feeling very meh.

  • thanks for the pro-tips. is there anywhere that does dry BBQ - as in not slathered in a pint of sickly sweet sauce?

  • Smokehouse in Islington is immense. That is all.

  • Ugh - I despise the Hairy Bikers but they're in Bilbao and San Sebastian this evening where I'm going on honeymoon so I've had to suck it up and tolerate them. Food looks immense.

I'm going to spend a week smashed on cider and goose barnacles.

  • I'm jelly. My mate just got back from Santander and will not stop talking about the food.

  • i need to change banks...

  • repped

  • So the sourdough pizza finally happened after 6 days of starter prep/fermentation. It was epic!

Toppings were: pasata, basil, mushrooms, salami, gorgonzola, pinch or parmesan, chilli oil and capers for salt.

I have zero pizza shaping skills.

Loads of dough left for moar pizzas next week :D

    Every dough should be sourdough!

  • Soda Bread Pizza?

  • I made the most beautiful vegetable curry tonight, got the masala just right!

Cost about tuppence to make... Gf complained there was a little too much cardamom but there wasn't any food left on her plate...

  • Was that from a can?

  • What is the green bit? Kale and lentils?

  • must remember not to look at this thread hungry

  • It's kale and pigeon peas, didn't have any lentils in the cupboard...

Total whatever was left in the larder meal... I've got quite a bit of the sauce left so I'm chucking the meat off a coupla chicken thighs in with it for tonight... Little bit of rice and bang!

No, it didn't come out a can, Graham... ;P

  • I'm in Vietnam. Have been for 10 days and will be for another week. That is all.

  • ugh, give me vietnamese food nowwwwwwwwww

  • Tonight I cooked for my other half and her family, steak sandwiches with homemade potato wedges. Medium rare sirloin steak on garlic-rubbed, toasted ciabatta with chimichurri sauce and some rocket. I'm an accommodating veggie.

    Nerged

  • Flying Pig in Dulwich - 7/10.

Starters - Smoked Scotch Egg was top notch. Chicken wings a bit flabby and average.

I had beef ribs. Best I've ever eaten. Smokey and juicy and yielding. Bog standard chips, no complaints. Excellent coleslaw. The fiancee has brisket. Nowt special.

Much of it was average, but the good bits were very good. If you're SE based, worth a trip and not expensive. Probably not worth travelling far for.

The beer was excellent. Gorgon's Alive from a local brewery was possibly the pick of the four I had. Yes four. I was thirsty.

  • ^^Haha I was asking for that..

  • Smokehouse in Islington is immense. That is all.

Went here today for brunch, I had duck egg and brisket hash. Was ok but tiny portions.

  • Ugh - I despise the Hairy Bikers but they're in Bilbao and San Sebastian this evening where I'm going on honeymoon so I've had to suck it up and tolerate them. Food looks immense.

I'm going to spend a week smashed on cider and goose barnacles.

I used to go to San Seb at least twice a year and just gorge.

    Bit more difficult nowadays.

  • Had bacon jam this weekend, life changed.
