  • ^ I love cooking the pregnant Jools pasta! Think it's one of the best things in Jamie's 30 minute meals book.

I'm really into cooking Asian food at the moment, and cooked for around 12 people on Saturday night, including 2 crispy aromatic ducks, braised aubergine and pork, black bean and tofu, beef in tomato sauce, and other things.
I failed to take any photos of it all though.

  • Oh hai. Just got back from three weeks eating our way around Cambodia and Vietnam. Did some cooking too. Lovely times.

    Cao Lau (Hoi An Noodles)

Bo La Lot (Beef grilled in Lotus Leaves)

    Banh Xeo (savoury rice pancake)

    BBQ Quail and Pig Chitterlings

A few more pics and jibber jabber here

  • In-and-Out was just for a day but Shake Shack will be permanent

  • I neglected to book Ottolenghi for Birthday lunch on Sunday until just now. Of course, no space. Not sure where to go now. Ideas?

    Anyone? Something similar.

  • In-and-Out was just for a day but Shake Shack will be permanent

I cannot believe I missed In N Out.

  • You and the whole of this side of the Atlantic.
    (Hendon excluded)

  • I loooooooove cau lau!

  • Nipped into Bodeans the other day to refuel, Mrs G isn't a massive fan but I talked her round, she had the pulled pork platter, incredz value, humungous plate of food for like £7. I had the usual Soho Special, still ace but I think I might be a Platter convert.

  • My girlfriend gave me a pasta machine for my birthday. Made beetroot tagliatelle the other day, worked well and surprisingly quick and easy to do. Novelty yet to wear off.

  • Cao Lau (Hoi An Noodles)

Cao Lau is amazing...favourite thing I taste in Nam. Other than rice wine.

  • Buttermilk fried chicken

  • Meat Mission opens Thurs Dec 6th

I haz invite to launch night!

  • Yay, work christmas lunch! booo its at a restaurant i worked at and cooked at for years booo. boring

Have you tried Vanilla Black or Mildreds?

  • In-and-Out was just for a day but Shake Shack will be permanent

    sir, yes sir!

  • Tonight MOC made slow roasted pork belly with epic crackling and black pudding mash. Amazing!
I have a baked blueberry cheesecake about to come out of the oven. First time I've ever made cheesecake, slightly nervous.

edit: just need to let it cool now

  • That looks lovely!

    changes date of flight back

  • Have you tried Vanilla Black or Mildreds?

Vanilla Black I've been saving to take my gf rather than for my birthday.

Went to Nizuni on Charlotte St. Food was delicious. Service was shit. Got 30% off food bill.

  • ..because the service was 'shit'?

  • Reasons:

Time taken before taking our order
The only time enough dishes were brought out so that we all had something to eat was when there was a platter of sushi/sashimi. The first main was served 30 mins before the last.
All the staff were dismissive and mostly ignored any requests.
We asked for more drinks 4 times before we got any
Despite the fact the length of time taken for the meal was entirely their fault - we ate very quickly - when the dessert menu was brought out we were forced to order straight away as the time we were allocated for the table was running out. Despite this time constraint, it took them 25 mins to bring dessert out.

We didn't even complain, the girl who brought the bill just apologised when she brought it over and said that the manager had taken 30% off the food bill.

  • Had exactly the same when we went to Nizuni a few weeks back, but instead of offering money off they just bought over glasses on champagne, despite the fact that none of us had ordered an alcoholic drink at any point...

  • would lamb chop aspargus poached egg with mayonaise go well or should i make another sauce for the meat?

  • hollandaise would be better...but not as much on the lamb....maybe a lite (<--on the vinegar aspect) garlic hollandaise?

  • that does sound beetter but i hope i dont fuck it up :/

  • Rescue it with hot water if it breaks...

In other news, made a quick roux with butter and ultra fine corn meal...used it to thicken a cold coronation-like-yoghurt to go with prawns..tres interesting, taste and texture were good. Will have to try again, maybe experimental bechamel...
