1 day down, 300 odd to go
Steveo - Take frequent snaps and make a time lapse video.
So I completely forgot to take time lapse photos of this but to be honest, after a week or so it was fairly dark and didn't look much different. It's been nearly a year and as this is intended for wedding favours, I need to strain it and get it into little 50ml bottles. The bottles themselves look like mini demi-johns without the loops. I have the funnel, muslin and 100ml syringe ready to go but I am unsure when to do it. The little bottles will have cork stoppers. Any ideas if there is a finite amount of time the gin could sit in those little bottles? Or, seing as it is mostly booze, will it be fine for a couple of months. Will have to make sure I don't leave myself trying to make 100 little bottles of gin complete with twee labels during the manic few days before the wedding. (I was in the back garden the other evening spray painting candleabras FFS).

I just repped 'loin out of food jealousy - but now I take it back on account of his shit eyesight - there appears to be two strips left over.

I forgot to take a half-way photo, like all good instagrams, this was that.
I proceeded to eat another 6 strips of one of my companions who 'didn't really like steak...'
Don't doubt me.
Ever.
Fucking EVER.I'd be up for round 2. I want to make my own bloody mary, which I missed out on yesterday.

Well then, more drinks for me!I recommend the Gin Bramble cocktail. It's the two pictured above in the jars with lots of ice.

I thought of how wet you must be while I sat in the conservatory of the Pineapple. Salted caramel ice cream is good.

Stevo, have you let the gin sit on the sloes for a year or did you rack it off to age?
-
• #12161
The demi John's have been sealed for a year and occasionally agitated as per all the instructions online. As its a spirit, there would be no benefit in ageing unless it was in a barrel or some other sort of flavoured container (eg. Whiskey stops ageing as soon as its bottled). My main concern is something happening to the fruit content once its in a less sealed environment.

I think I will sample it sooner rather than later anyway. If its good then I will strain off the berries and place back in the demi John's for bottling closer to the time. This should hopefully give me enough time to think of an alternative if it's rubbish.

I went a few weeks a go, it was great. Might try and sneak in another visit before it closes.

currently filtering a batch of limencello i've had sitting the last 2 months. Bought 95% alcohol in Milan last time I was there, have diluted it to half but it still smells potent. I'll report flavour tonight and eventual blindness on saturday morning.

Have removed the berries and tasted. Really really, could probably have survived easily enough but at least now I have peace of mind. Have frozen some of the berries for making a sauce later on (did this before with venison, fucking awesome, boozy sauce). The gin is back in the demi john's and I'm half cut from the fumes.

the limoncello is fucking ace. and strong. fumes alone made me lightheaded, couple of small glasses before dinner and i'm in a much better mood already. it'll be a good autumn!

I'm not sure off the top of my head, I think the website said it was open for 6 weeks and I think it opened the week before the olympics (although this could be out by a week or two).
Also if you do go some info on the other sides:
Aubergine with parmesan: super dense and rich, it was quite tasty for a bite but then didn't really taste of much other than paramesan.
Salad with apple (or maybe pear) and cheese - leaves seemed the same as the regular side salad, not enough of the extra bits but it was nice when you loaded up a fork full with the tasty bits.
In short I'd probably just stick to the steak and chips, the other sides were alright (and pretty cheap at £2.50) but not on the same level as the steak.
What I'll be ordering on my next visit:
Steak + leaves
Chips
Bramble cocktail/DIY Bloody Mary
Pudding of the day (last time it was chocolate/caramel/sea salt mousse) -

If a forum trip is on the cards count me in.
First full week day off in about 10 months today:
Went to the wolseley for breakfast: basket of mixed pastries - very good (and unusual types), cafe Creme - not great - basically came as a flat white which I can get anywhere. Orange juice, decent, fresh. Haggis with fried duck eggs. Very very good. Generous slice of quality haggis served on some fried bread with two good size perfectly fried eggs and a drizzle of some sort of spicy sauce. Bloody Mary made to spec - very good.
Then afterward we ambled over to Gelupo where I had the ricotta and sour cherry ice cream and an espresso.
All before midday.
