Not the most robust of cameras.

500cm (with a metered prism if you want inbuilt metering). Nigh on indestructible :-)

  • Problem is I'm not sure if it was shot like that or not, might just process it as normal and hope it's fine/get highlights.

That's what the Clip Test was invented for ;)

Cheers Dan, also thanks for the film although I have to admit something... One of the cassettes you gave me had a shot roll of film in it and I only realised once I popped it open :(

I'm pretty new to this, will google for that.

I definitely won't be able to afford on of those!

  • Why do you want medium format (what do you want to do with it) & how much do you want to spend?

  • Well I really dig medium format portraits and what I've been seeing in this thread/elsewhere on the internet, bigger prints too. And I'm generally a bit of a geek and would like to have a go/own one.

Haven't decided on budget yet but realistically I won't be buying for a couple of months.

  • This might be a good start - if 6x4,5 is "enough" for you, and you decide on SLR -
Mamiya 645, really cheap on eBay by now. I used to love these.
It's not on par with Hasselblad, but it's really good, both body & lenses.

  • If you like doing portraits think about Rolleiflex (twin lens).
I think we just had that a few pages back - people love these things (the people you're going to photograph),
as it looks "friendly", not like a tool / a weapon.

  • Both look to be nice suggestions, I'll have a think about what I'd prefer.

    Do either have meters?

    Any models to avoid?

  • Looking through some shots from earlier this year, this one made me laugh again.

    35Ti and neopan 400cn

  • I like the second one, nice shot.

Indra - made me laugh, too - so thanks for that

Later models of the Rollei have meters.
With the 645 you can use both waist-level finders or "regular" (prism) ones; the latter being avaiable with meters.

I don't know much about the different Rollei models to be honest,
but if you go Mamiya, you might want to look for a 645 1000s which has 1/1000 top speed (instead of 1/500), self timer, and DOF preview.

  • ct precisa / yashica t4

  • If you are looking at a Rollei you'd be daft not to consider the Yashicamat. Had a 124-G, still would if I developed my own.

  • More things to consider, I like it.

I shot some ektar today, mad colours are always. Love it.

  • some great shots there indra , keep em coming :)

  • here's a slightly off topic Q...
i've just had som photo prinnts made at boots on (from the writing on the back) Fujicolor crystal paper (no idea of the actual machine) i was hoping to be able to use a solvent to melt/dissolve/distort the print to try and create some sort of effect a bit like the Peter Gabriel sleeve:

Trouble is neither Swan lighter fluid or even Nitromors (the good stuff) effect the prints at all...! does anyone know of a solvent the will dissolve the print...?

seriously surprised the Nitromors does nothing..!

and yes, i know the Peter Gabriel one was done by squeezing a polaroid, just a way of explaining the sort off effect.....

  • ^^^ ..nice light, nice lens, nice colours!

Second L35AF arrived today - and this one seems to be working.
Very funny camera, with it's (sort-of) AF indicator, also great shutter & advance sound, makes me smile.
Blasted half a roll in like one hour because it was so fun. The other half I'll save for comparison shots with the other compacts.

Currently scanning the roll I put through my Mju-ll, and the darn light leaks are still there, broad as before.

  • actually while i'm here i'll share a few shots from some rolls i shot on an Olympus XA while on a trip to japan/China if anyone's interested.. ;)

  • I know I asked this already a while back, but.. did nobody else have this sort of leaks with the Mju-ll ?

  • nice!

  • (balls! can't work out how to insert flickr photos)

If you click on the three dots (on the right, below thumbnails) and chose "download / all sizes", then "view all sizes",
you can choose between different sizes of the image, right-click on it, and use 'copy image location',
then use the direct adress of the JPG to embed here without the flick-text if you want.

  • Ha, too late.. I see you figured it out..
