Well, just because you were asking "how I see these things".
Nice shot, would crop though (cut off stuff on the right).

It's always for the same purpose I meant. Practical rather than aesthetic. Camera simply being a tool to document.
Yes I pursuit this approach as well, but definately prefer digital for that.
If I really shoot film, pay a lot of money for a roll, for developing, go to the lab two times, invest hours to scan the fucking negatives,
then I want it to look really good / the way I want it, as much as possible, or else I'm annoyed.
I don't archieve this with, lets say, a throw-in-my-pocket AF Mju-II I realised. -

Realised I made a booboo, said XA when I meant Mju II.

Good point. It's a game of patience I suppose. Maybe I should shoot something else other than people for a while.

Need some help, flying out tomorrow to 3 beautiful cities and don't know what camera to take apart from the dslr. Pentax me super with 50mm 1.7/ 28mm 2.8/ 135mm 2.8or a mamiya 645 with a 80mm 2.8?
What would you take?

Personally, I think if you're mainly shooting with a DSLR, it'd be nice to get the really special shots with the 645 as it'll be hard to switch between a 35mm slr and a DSLR (unless you only take one out at a time).

More than one camera?
Working holiday surely? -
• #7635
I just packed 3 cameras to bring with me.
DSLR, SLR and film Compact seems perfect for a 2 week holiday.

That's either dedication or insanity.
Either way, I bow to your fortitude. -
• #7637
To be honest, if I'm bothering to lug my RB67 somewhere, it's little extra effort to put other stuff in too! My XA or T4 are both smaller than a lens or back for the 67. I took my OM1 out for the first time in ages the other day, it amused me how small it feels now.

That's either dedication or insanity.
Either way, I bow to your fortitude.Snowboarding holiday so shoot video on the dslr, use the MX when I want to and then the gr1 for nights out/other shit.

I couldn't do it - I don't have the dedication or skill, or the room in my 15-17 L travel bags.
I just replaced my GXR system with an E-PM2 loaded up with the 17mm 1.8 lens.
Some would say it's a downgrade, but I'm happy so far. -
• #7640
Fair enough, we're bringing so much stuff that my hand luggage alone is 40l it'd feel wrong not bringing cameras!
-
• #7641
will your mobile have a camera too ? wouldn't want to be caught short now ?
-
• #7642
Ha yeah but no space left on it for more than a few pictures.

Bought myself a pack of Ektar 100 as I fancied trying something different from Portra,
I haven't shot any yet but from looking around it looks like I'm going to get very pink skintones with it if I shoot te kind of stuff i usually like to, but that this is reduced by not shooting in direct sunlight
any suggestions of how to get the best out of it?
-
• #7645
Shooting dull stuff comes out nicely. It's just very sharp and punchy and the palette is a bit mad. If you've gone for 35mm just shoot a load of different stuff, if 120 do the same but be aware portraits might be a bit weird.

• #7646
Like anything, it's probably worth shooting a bit of what you normally shoot so you've got something to compare it to! You need at least one constant for comparison ;)
-
• #7647
It sounds like its worth chucking a roll through the camera just to see what I get before I try it out on anything more important
The only side by side comparison I have found so far is this...

Agree with both of nerafius' posts.
In my experience skin tones are unnatural and contrasty, especially in bright sunlight.
I liked photos of things in bright sunlight though, especially reds have a lot of punch.
Have not done flash stuff (check nefarius' blog for this) or much artificial light.Really liked "dull" light, like cloudy / overcast skies gives you.
Do like the majority of films light like that though, basically want slide film for sunny stuff I guess.Ektar is kind of a vivid, punchy, contrasty film, sort of an extravagant character.
And sharp! -

Just now stumbled over a picture shot on Ektar, with a Rolleiflex SL66. Nice.

Oh I've been shooting film for around 10 years and have gone through enough kit. It's always for the same purpose I meant. Practical rather than aesthetic. Camera simply being a tool to document.
Not the cleanest image but the shot is there. Some film or the other. ProgramA 50mm and stuff.
