Well done on the 645. The light seals are on the cusp of going with mine, so I wrap tape round the outside. The film can be tricky to load until you've got the knack. The 80mm lens is as good as anything you can buy, and additional lenses are very chap. Have fun.

  • I shoot digital for work but still use a Rollei 3.5F, a Fuji 645 rangefinder and my favourite Konika Hexar to keep my eye in. The Rollei is especially good as you have to really think about composition with a back to front style viewfinder. I send all my 120 to Genie Imaging and they do a great dev & scan service . Now that Fuji have discontinued Neopan 120 I shoot c41 predominantly .

  • Well done on the 645.

Yea, neat.. good price, and this ebay-for-charity thing is nice, never heard of that.

The 80mm lens is as good as anything you can buy

    Well there *is *a 80mm / f1.9...

Always loved the 645, and really enjoyed shooting it.. have fun!

  • Is it fucked?

    Yes.

  • (...) what's the biggest print I can expect to get from a 35mm neg (...)

I have seen prints from 35mm negs blown up to 3x4 meters, and they looked fucking great. Really.
It was rock and roll photography, shot from the crowd, with an M6, with flash, on slide film, nefarius please cover your ears, cross processed.
So colours were of course totally wack, you could most definately see the grain even standing a meter away from the print, etc. etc.

It all depends on what you want, where stuff is going to be hung in the end, and of course what kind of image it is.
And what is 'acceptable' for you, in terms of grainyness.
I must admit up until some weeks ago I could not accept / enjoy grain in analog colour photography at all, especially when people / skin was involved.
Then I had a really good roll of Portra 800 that changed my view completely.

And concearning the other part of your question -
traditional printing will of course be nicest, but also the most expensive.
If that's not an option scan the very best quality you can, and set up an uncompressed file in photoshop / gimp / whatever -
with the exact dimensions, resolution and colour space the people who are going to print it need.

  • currently scanning my fave series of photos

Normally I like landscapes more than people/portraits, but there are some really nice ones there, love the incongruity of the Fred Perry jumper in this one:

and something about the compressed depth of this really appeals to me:

Must have been an amazing trip?

  • Cheap 400 ISO / Nikon 200mm f4 AI
    ..crop, vignette, etc., obviously.

  • That's nice

  • Cheers.

  • Cheap 400 ISO / Nikon 50mm Series E

  • ..like it.
Am definately regretting not having gotten a SX-70 years ago, when you could still buy various polaroid films easily, for reasonable prices.

Do people on here use these "instax" cameras from Fuji?
Never had one of these in my hands, neither one of the cameras nor a photo.
I'm really put off by their "bubblegum" product design, I mean what the fuck.

yeah bubblegum what the fuck haha
my sis got one of those instax mini bubblegum ones, i myself got a cheap Lomo LC-A instant back that takes instax mini. vignetting.ugh lomo.ugh

I quite like the size of instax wide, just now i was on youtube, and watched people demonstrate using instax wide film on a pack film camera (polaroid 100-455 series), i havent tired it yet, i got Polaroid 180 and 360, and i am selling the 360. its on ebay now!

  • ..could you post the sharpest shot you did with the lomo / instant back?

  • ^ Trick question

  • I have a couple of images of my own that I want to get large prints of so I can put them on the wall, I've got a coupes of questions about this...

Assuming the image is shot on a fine grain colour print film (ektar 100) with a sharp lens and no camera shake what's the biggest print I can expect to get from a 35mm neg.

Secondly I was wondering what the best way to do this would be?
Traditional printing or getting a high res scan and using software like perfect size and getting a digital print done?

    Cheers in advance.
    .

    Small is good

  • No idea what film or what camera. I find it funny how people always stick their whole arm out to protect their faces. No one just sticks their palm up close to their face. It's almost always arm extended. I have a stupid number of these with the same reaction. He was one of very few who was bang on target.

  • ^ Trick question

Haha - no, I really would like to see how sharp it gets with that combination.

  • hmm if you are trying to submit that photo ^ to this series v i would stop now

think someone at the guardian has a thang for red circles

  • My 645 has arrived. Better condition than described and looks to have a roll in. I'm looking for a waist level view finder if anybody can point me in the right direction or it's selling one? Gracias

  • Anybody know the turn around for genie imaging?

  • Water streaks.

    How to clean them?
How to clean (wash off) other residue on 35mm colour negatives?
Searched the net and found contradicting info..
Anybody on here got experience with doing this, at home?
    Thanks!
