  • I might be interested. will do some research and get back to you

  • I have 2 of those cameras. It takes the Pentax K-mount lenses, and is fully mechanical. Thats why I have them.

  • Anyone got one of these kicking around that they're not using?

I'll give you a tenner for it

Brill, thanks. I'll also have a sniff around the interwebs.

  • ^ Doesn't go for much at all on ebay, but a quick google says it's a good camera, so seems to be a good choice for a starter slr

Yeah, and a few more zeros. Now, if only I had one of those knocking about as well as the Ricoh...

  • missmouse, if you decide to keep that camera, and if after a while you want a dream lens to go with it, I suggest this - the Samyang 14mm k-mount lens.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samyang-14mm-f-2-8-ED-IF-UMC-PENTAX-FIT-NEW-UK-/300703740859?pt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item460356f3bb

If you wonder what images from it would look like, go to Flikr, and search 15mm film. Then choose interesting. It's my dream lens. I'll get it when I can afford it.

  • If these stay around the current price they will be a bargain for anyone in the North-East!

  • APX 100

    This one as well.
It's pretty cheap over here, and you can buy it in every second supermarket.
It's ok, but really on the 'soft' side. I think it's good for 'quiet' pictures, and portraits.

  • Some awesome shots there Andy & Kboy.

I've just got back from toronto and have about 5 films that need developing. Didn't take a digi cam with me so shot on a mix of XA2 with out -of-date-cheap-as-hell Kodak Max 400 and a Canon 1N with same film. Also shot my first roll of Velvia through the Canon so interested to see what they come out like. If anything decent comes out I'll get it posted up.

  • I have a couple of bits here guys! including an XA2+a11 flash

  • Anyone know much about paper negs and contact prints?

I decided to try using paper in my 5x4 camera (it's what I've got and it's cheaper than film too).

My paper negs seem ok but my contact prints not so much, lacking detail etc. Maybe I over just over exposed.

These are scans of paper neg on the left (inverted after scan) and contact print on right.

The focus is funny on the 2nd one just because I wanted to play with what the camera could do.

  • Been a while since I did contact prints; back in the pinhole days, those were 24x30 though.
Google which sort of Paper is best (thinner the better I think).
You will always loose some detail / sharpness though, it's inevitable.

  • My direct positive paper arrived today anyway so going to try that out this weekend.

Should maybe start a "non digital, non film, paper photography" thread!

  • MV - yeah I've found contact printing you get much reduced resolution/sharpness when compared with proper printing from an enlarger.

These were contact prints on very old paper (expired in 80s I think) from 5x4 glass plates. I've found with a film neg the results are a bit better, I guess its to do with the newton effect of the layers of glass/film backing.

This is a scan of a 69 film neg. In reality the glass plate negs are as sharp/ similar res to this, and scanned on hte same machine. So it just shows just how much is lost in the paper/method

  • Exposure is spot on in the last one. Also, nice image of Stephen Fry above.

    I know it's not him. :-)

  • Just found this guy's work via the Creative Review blog

    Some great work in there

(don't know where else to put it. It's not as bombastic as the Photo of the Day stuff, and it feels a bit analogue, but is probably digital, so as usual i put here cause it's my favourite thread of the two)

    hahahaha, repped!

  • I don't shoot much film. Latest roll developed today. B&W HP5 and an XA2.

    Delhi Metro

  • Unused, boxed XA arrived in se mail yesterday.
Funny little thing! Focusing is a bit of a pita though.
Shooting an Ektar with it atm, will post results next week.

  • You soon get used to that funky little focus tab. On the street I used to shoot at narrower apertures (say f8), set it at around 3m and let DOF do the rest. Wonderful camera.

  • I want one! anyone know of someone selling one?

  • ^ I'm selling an xa2+ a11 flash and manual instructions
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread85902.html
    If your intersted

  • ^^ There is a trick to it using some tape. Mine is much easier to focus now. Look it up.

Does anyone else have a Lubitel 166 or similar? I shot a roll of Portra through mine last year and it came out beautifully. I haven't used it since, took it to Berlin, same film, same light conditions, etc and they came out really badly focused and the light all off. I was really surprised at myself but I've shot a different roll of film through it since and same thing happened. I'm struggling to think how it could have been set up wrongly this time or if I've managed to ruin the mechanics? (I never had the manual, I just figured it out myself)

  • ps. nerdz, I think that XA2 price is a little steep? Especially on t'forum.
