Fully understand that, however reading on the net people have mix reviews about them, some says the lens on the XA2 is sharper than the XA. people says its easier to focus with the XA2 and zone focusing that the XA range finder.
Its a matter of personal choice/opinion -

Its a matter of personal choice/opinionYeah, I would be inclined to agree that when in focus my XA2 is a little sharper but because the focus can be tricky to get right, on average the results of my XA come out better.
The XA's rangefinder can be a bit fiddly/a pain in low light. Both cameras are decent either way.

You gotta take internet people with a bucketload of salt, especially when they discuss sharpness / colour / chromatic aberration and other wank-talk. I find that it's very rarely true, and even rarer that it matters. Just get a camera you'll like and will use the most.
Choosing between a point and shoot and a rangefinder shouldn't be about sharpness, it's about what your needs / preferences are

Anyone know anything about EOS lenses and which bodies are good to look for. My Dad had a 300 which died due to water damage, he then went digital. He's still got all the lenses and accessories so I figured I'd look into picking up a body for them - would be nice to shoot on an slr that was a bit quicker than my OM1.

I see, still confused tho!
I like film and I use a pentax ME super, compact and loads of control
but the XA's always appealed to me. I guess Im gonna have to get one and find out!
cheers for the advice. What you might find is people get VERY confused between the full fat XA and the XA1, as some/most(?) XA1's just have 'XA' printed on them. As soon as you see the two side by side, they barely resemble each other, only the black plastic clamshell is vaguely similar.
The XA1 is the XA shaped olympus trip, it has the poorest lens, selenium cell metering, I think just two shutter speeds (1/60th and 1/250th?) and variable shutter controlled by the selenium, i..e the simplest 35mm camera.
The full XA is a full ap priority/manual fixed lens RF, with numerous neat features.
XA1 £5-15
XA2/3/4 £15-40
XA £20-100 -

^ doesn't the XA1 set the shutter speed like the lomo does? ie when the light-meter 'is full' it closes the shutter blades?
(I also think you make the XA1 seem worse than it is, I've taken some cracking shots with mine. For a tenner it's an amazing camera, especially when you play on it's strengths – bright day, everything is at least 2m away)

Thanks for the help, I have a couple of XA2 on the post, one without a flash, spent ust under £40 for both of them, also today I bought a Olympus Trip AF (the flash is not working) and a Olympus Mju zoom 140, fully working-like new camera plus 2 rolls of films (fuji+kodak) for £4.
This while I was waiting for my negative to be process across the road. The Results are here. Kodak Color Plus 400ISO on Olympus Trip 35
Scan quality is shit, waiting for a Epson V500 should be here by the end of the week. I will re scan and do a comparison

I like the first one. I fondled a Hasselblad 500 CM this week, really want to try medium format but don't think I can justify it when I need a new digital.
I should have bought that rollei up there ^

makes me itchy to shoot some medium format again...
About what?
THE Xa has a range finder so focusing accurately is easy. The XA2 has 3 preset focus settings which can be frustrating to use.
The XA has aperture priority and displays the shutter speed in the viewfinder. The XA2 has neither.
The XA is a rangefinder, the XA2 is a point and shoot.
