  • exactly dude, this is where photoshop comes in.
    anyone heard of this? http://www.digitalphotoshopretouching.com/retouching.htm

    I have a tutorial DVD from then....just went through it, dont do fashion, but learnt quite a few smart moves of getting around problems which I used to do in a much more complicated way

    oh, and one of the greatest things in the tutorial is that you get to use one of their 39mpx hasselblad raw files

  • <3 teddy!

  • have you bought one yet? come on!

    too many things on the go at the moment, i'm also thinking about asking a friend to tag along on some of his shoots

  • sorta, I used to have a film scanner that give me an equation to a 21 megapixels photo, the grain varies on how you expose the photo and the choice of film, low ISO film such as Kodak Portra 160VC once exposed carefully can show little grain, although not easy up to 4000dpi.

    Sold it because I need to get the money for a full-frame camera, wish I hasn't thought but ah.

    That's freaking awesome.

    Has anyone got one of these that they're willing to rent out for a nominal amount? I'd love to digitise a load of old negatives and slides as I never look at the physical stuff anymore, just the digital.

    I see that I can pick one up on eBay for £200. But I'd only need to use it a short while to scan in old negs and then job done.

  • Have you check local colleges and university? they tend to have those scanner, you could try and talk to them about using it for a short while despite not being a student.

  • exactly dude, this is where photoshop comes in.

    to a point, have you heard of a photographer called Tim Walker? he did fashion photography using medium format, and in his recent book (called Pictures), he stated that he never use digital maniplation at all in all his photo.

    How you think fashion photography deal with it in the past? Photoshop is a life saver for sorting out small error such as stray hair for instance.

  • I am a student, what a great idea. I've no idea where to ask though... I'll put a sign up on one of the noticeboards.

  • you'll need to figure out how to use the software,if you're apt at Photoshop, then the Nikon scanner software shouldn't be hard, if you use RAW before, the Nikon scanner make it look like a native version of RAW.

  • i seem to remember that those scanners were good for film but sucked at scanning negatives though, no?

  • here's a high resolution example of a scan job from the Nikon Coolscan;

    Link to the big size

  • but is that from film or from neg?

    and i'm resisting the temptation to start marking it up...

  • from negative,

    by film you mean the movie kind?

  • no i mean positive film.

  • teddy, what do all these penises represent? What is all this satanic writing?

  • from negative,

    by film you mean the movie kind?

    no i mean positive film.

    trannys

    Yeah my local college has the exact same one, great scans. HAUUUUGE jpg/tiff files at 4000dpi. But great resolution.
    Scans fine from negs....havent tried scanning positives?
    The more grainy HP5 400ISO ILFORD comes up pretty awful. But the pro 400 ILFORD delta seemed to be perfecto, so if you're looking to scan your negs and need an alrounder B&W go for the delta.....unless your a kodak person, in which case get out!

  • that's a britishism that i've still not adopted. i can't bring myself to call transparencies "trannys"

  • pentax k1000. best film slr body ever.

    I have a pentax K1000, I love it, but what are your specific reasons for liking the K1000 so much?

  • ditto, prefer the ME Super but the K1000 was my first camera, it was nice and simple and pretty bloody reliable at that, build as a tank, it have a cult status as the best camera for first timer I think.

    that's pretty much it really, I don't really love it that much thought, it's fucking huge and heavy after recieving the ME Super.

    look how small the ME Super is!!!;
