    Thank you.

heres my snaps from a couple of days ago:

    wallie!

  • open question. what light meter has been ticking most of your boxes for the past few years.

    thanks in advance.

  • pentax spotmeter V (with a handmade zone system sticker over the EV scale)

  • Weston Master >

  • Westons, when properly calibrated are f*cking class.

That said, my favourite meter, and the greatest mistake I ever made to sell, was my Sekonic L-398. I know that even digital meters are sometimes calibrated against this, such is its accuracy.

But my meter of the past years has been a Polaris. No errors or problems, not ever. But I tend to prefer to take an incident reading, then a reflected reading, and adjust the exposure as the light changes, or with a view to fill-flash ratio.

And speaking about metering, I remember a few years ago I met a young portrait and wedding photographer. She had her own (pretty successful) business and an impressive website. It was at a wedding, and over time I have done many myself, so we got to talking about photography. I showed my complete amazement that she carried only one camera.

"What would you do if it malfunctioned?", I asked. She looked at me as if it was either a stupid question, or she really didn't understand what I was driving at.

So the conversation meandered a bit and then I asked, "What fill flash ratio do you normally use?"

This proved to be a terminal error on my part.

She asked, "What's fill-flash ratio?". It was then that I said something like, "Oh, look at the time....I really have to go back and join the others".

As far as I know, she still has a successful business, and may or may not know what metering is, relected or incident, and what flash ratios are best for her. Technology can make a pro out of almost anyone.....which of course is great. ;)

  • I've got some old Sekonic 'doesn't need batteries' light meter. Still works really well for what I need it for.

My main MF camera has a built in meter anyway so I just rely on that.

  • Ricoh GR1 + Portra 160vc

  • Reeeaallllyy want a Ricoh GR1. Tres cher though

  • Ricoh GR1 + Portra 160vc

Really like this, very soft colours. Nice flicks.

  • Just found a Praktica MTL3 in the wardrobe, going to put some film in and see if it still works. I've never shot with film before so I think it's worth a punt!

  • That Yashica Electro 35...

Whoever can buy one - do it!
Very sharp fast lens, measures light well, build like a tank (I dropped mine during the Halford's Tour).

    I like prakticas a lot.

    Great little cameras.

  • Got a Shirley Wellard Universal 35mm Reloadable Cassette - 1950s vintage in original box. The item looks to be in excellent condition - £20

Got to have a proper look, unscrewed the filter and it pulled the front of the lens off... Somebody must of broke it and put it away.

Looking for a cheap 50mm prime with an m42 fitting if anyone has any spares.

I might just look for a whole camera on the bay x

  • 50mm screw-mount lenses are common as dogshit, and lots of them have good quality optics and are cheap. Try charity shops, or oxfam online normally has a good few of them.

  • My metz flash 45 cl-4 is for sale £75. I just don't get enough use out of it. I listed in the classifieds here if anyones interested: http://www.lfgss.com/thread44477.html#post1438294

  • Also camera wise I mess about with Polaroid SX70 sonar, Polaroid Land Camera 100 automatic and mess about with my Cheki and Fuji Instax.

I miss uni and having access to large format printing facilities. I finally had to let go of my Wiesta technical camera last year which was a sad moment.

  • Here's some news for those interested in older cameras.

127 film has been available in black and white in Silverprint, from EFKE. But there is also a new production of 127 colour film from Bluefire - the Bluefire Murano 160.

Why buy an film that was obsolete till recently? Because it means that cameras that had ridulously low prices, due to the lack of film for them, can again become useful buys. The Baby Rolleiflex and Yashica 44/44LM, are just a couple models from different makes that one could have a look at.

  • I posted earlier that I received a voigtlander meidum format camera, however I have just discovered that the lense does not seem to fire accurately at the speeds marked.
Is it possible to get it serviced, or if not timed so I can mark new shutter speeds on it?

  • Anyone know where I can get a spare diaphragm blade for a Veinsteurder f/16 48.6mm lens from a 1973 Klaxtundenheist rangefinder ?

  • @nickyspaghetti

It is certainly possible. There are quite a few camera repair places that can help. Some are listed already in this thread. Sorry, I don't know which posts. This might help also.

Or phone Silverprint or Mr.Cad, and ask for a recommendation. Mr.Cad will probably do it in a day or so, as they have at least one repairer that they use.

You'd be lucky to find a diaphragm blade for less than 450GN nowadays, especially one for a Veinsteurder lens.
As you probably know, Veinsteurder lenses were made in a tiny Soviet factory in East Germany and their time in vogue was short lived (mainly due to the fact that the factories owner, Werner Heinzsleptic, was caught committing frottage with the foreman of his factory and was shot)

Had Heinzsleptic not been shot (and the Veinsteurder name tarnished) then I think we would still be seeing his lenses on the market nowadays.

You might get lucky on ebay, but they dont come up much. Good luck on your hunt.

  • Alternatively you could try modding a Lächerlich tenure latch?

It was just a rebranded export version of Steinhall-Meyer Omnicron. Same Hexacta factory in Goettingen.
