  • ..yea, bit steep maybe, but as you said.. also if it's in good condition it really is a very good camera for the money.

Oh and cheers, yea I like that one too..

  • ..seeking input / advice -
friends of mine want a rather low-budget instant film solution for their wedding.
The idea is guests taking pictures of themselves and sticking them in an album right on the spot.
    Fuji instax mini?
Or what was that thing that prints on instax material from iPhone?
    Any experiences / recommendations appreciated..

  • We got an Instax mini for our wedding day, and it has since been used for family parties and other family weddings. Pretty full proof in operation and the pictures are perfect for that sort of drunken hilarity in my opinion.

  • Tina, what scanner are you using? Is it Reflecta (it has SF as native software) ?

  • @mi7rennie - cheers for the feedback!

@Ghibli - I use a QUATO "Intelli Scan 5000" (also sold under the name "Plustek").
It came with Silverfast Ai, and as far as I know it's the only software I can use this with (VueScan for example being not compatible / lacking drivers etc.)

  • @Tina.kino

Plustek not compatible with Vuescan, really?

I'm permanently interested in others' experience with scanners since mines are second hand and could give up the ghost any time, and AFAIK no one service them.

  • Plustek not compatible with Vuescan, really?

    Could have sworn the last time I searched I did not find a functioning VueScan download;
just checked again what Plustek scanner excactly is the one I have here (labeled QUATO) - supposedly the "Optic Film 8200i" - for which there indeed is a download!

Just had a quick go with it; seems to work.
Realized quickly though: there's no ICE / iSRD support - and: a full version that doesn't do massive watermarks isn't actually cheap!

  • Would be glad if it works for you - many swear by Vuescan. I for one had only troubles with it (couldn't even set up my KM) and with SF (even just installing it wrecked my PC and after I deleted it had to re-install several pieces software anew). That's the reason I'm using only the native KM software, and I even run an obsolete OS to permit it to function smoothly.

  • Well I don't see myself paying $89.95 for it, especially if there's no dust removing capabilities; also ways to adjust for different film material seems very limited.

Don't get me wrong, I fucking hate Silverfast.
Can't wrap my head around how it's possible that such a pain in the ass software is the best there is for home use.
But I guess there's no choice but make the best of it - I'm pretty sure there just won't be any new / better scan software, as nobody's developing one.

  • Vuescan does do IR cleaning/dust removal (ie ICE)
Plenty of adjustments possible for film too.

Did you switch to Professional mode? That has lots of features...

  • lol... actually, if I remember correctly, the full version of SF was much pricier compared to Vuescan - I considered buying a Reflecta scanner (which is tied with SF) and the full version of the software literally doubled the cost of the scanner, i.e. was in the realm of 250 - 300 euros; otherwise Reflecta came bundled with a ridiculously crippled version of SF (one was not allowed to export in TIFF format or something like that).

  • Vuescan does do IR cleaning/dust removal (ie ICE)

..hmm, I don't see this (Vuescan 9 x64), and yes I switched to "professional mode"..

  • lol... actually, if I remember correctly, the full version of SF was much pricier compared to Vuescan

..yes, of course - but the QUATO Intelli Scan I have came with the "pro" Silverfast (Ai), so I already have this.

  • Nice.... what film is this?

  • Cheers. Cinestill 50D

  • Where is a good place to get XP2 developed and scanned? Preferably on the east side. Is that place off Brick Lane still going?

  • I've tried utfs but nothing happening.

where (preferably Soho) does developing? Preferably the cheaper end of the spectrum?

  • A few days old but which Poundland? I need to pick some more up (and fulfil my promise to @BigH too) but the 2 Poundlands near me are all out and don't know when they're getting more! Eye Culture sell 'em for £1.50 a pop which isn't bad, but I'd still prefer Poundland...

  • I'm pretty sure Eye Culture (that place off Brick Lane) can do that. Give 'em a ring just to check? 020 7033 4142 Not sure what quality you're after and their B&W dev + scan can be pricey-er than the colour.

  • Cool. I haven't used film for a few years so didn't know if Eye Culture were still going.

  • in reply to @JackFlash
Maybe a bit far for you. In Dundee.....

  • You already know this one -

..yet I took another shot, with Nikon F3 and 50/1.4 (previous was L35AF point'n'shoot), in better light..

    All hail Cinestill!
