a month ago. five months after it was fitted. Previous chain was on a year and never got any attention.
i'm aiming for a monthly clean now. Not because I think it needs that much oil but it gets filthy and makes a right mess when I have to remove the wheel.

I cleaned the chain on the wils the other day and oiled it.
because I was messing with the gearing anyway. before that? can't remember, never I think. the chain would have been new about 9 months ago anyway, so this was probably it's first clean.

i like to clean mine fairly regularly, otherwise the missus complains.

I lubed mine the other day. Everyone should lube up at least once a week.

can't you get "pre-lubed" ones now???

The shame. I keep reading interweb chain maintenance discussions.
Degreased with citrus stuff then used the rubbing alcohol I have a couple of litres of originallly for record cleaning purposes to remove the degreaser and any water then soaked in oil and cleaned with rag and sprayed with dry lube.
I get bored easily ok?

You're just making yourselves look bad. It's your own time you're wasting. I can sit here all day...

once a week, wipe clean and feed chainsaw oil. I find that chainsaw oil dries fairly quickly, but keeps drivetrain super silent and smooth. Riding in wet also means more oiling. Chain gets a white spirit rinse and dunk in oil when I get round to cleaning the bike (usually after 500 miles). My bike doesnt have full mudguards so drivetrain does get pretty mucked up and chains only last 1,000 miles (1% stretch).

Why? Are you worried your routine bike maintenance tasks are falling by the wayside?
You can't be as slack as me with bike fettling, surely? On another note, I do want one of those Park chain wear indicators to save my DA cassette.

new chain last week, guess that counts as a lubing as it was pre-lubed. made it a right hassle getting it on, try fitting a chain tool around a overly slippy chain.

Result?
Let's just say it paid of ;)

@hippy - just get a 12" steel rule.
You know what?? I used to use one of them for chains, cutting stuff straight, and, of course, it's in Oz.
You have no idea the number of times I've needed a steel edge and thought "fuck I wish I had my steel rule!". I'm gonnasteal one from workbuy immediately!!(I'm still gonna buy the Park chain wear tool.. because I just want one :) )

Strip my bike down to the bearings every month or two - complete regrease and rebuild takes around a couple of hours.
Get's me hard.
clean, clean, clean must stay clean . . . the spiders, the spiders. . .

every few months i strip the drivetrain (remove cranks/chain/cog/lockring), take chianring off arms, clean every bit thoroughly (except chain, that just gets a good wiping off), and re-oil with phil tenacious oil. best stuff in the world.

u kinda know when ur chain needs cleaning cos when u bend it laterally you can hear the dirt "crunching" in-between the plates. That's how i gauge it anyway.
I refuse to say 'lubed'.
Hack/fixed mtb - can't remember.
Track (ex-hillclimb) - can't remember.
