  • i ride maxxis refuse, occasionally bonti hardcase, i like em.

  • I'm on 'dillo elites. I like.

  • Sorry, michelin lithion tyres

  • In fact, if you make it to streatham, I've got a pair of bontis and a dillo with life left in em.

  • I use Armadillo Elites. Pretty much bullet proof. They ride nicely although some people say they are harsh. Usually last about 2-3 months before I skid through the tread on the rear, it then they cuts and chunks up and needs to be replaced within a couple of weeks.

I fear the mergetron will gobble this into the tyres thread.

  • That's two votes for dillos.

  • the mergetron? that sounds a bit scary. only slightly less scary than the "nursery" mind.

the thing i didnt like about the armadillos was that it looked like i'd be skidding around all over the place on them. is this just me being a bit silly? the man in Evans says i was, but i hated him.

  • Whatever you do, make sure you ask for 2 front tyres. What the idiots in places like Evans don't realise, is that all the big tyre manufacturers sell rear tyres for the same price, and yet they use cheaper rubber, and often recycled metal or kevlar beads from old front tyres that customers have traded in at their local bike shops, which the retailer then returns to the manufacturer for a small rebate.

2 front tyres will have substantially less rolling resistance, and be more punctureproof, than a front and a rear.

  • Mergetron == merged with the tyres thread linked to above.

Tread on bicycle tyres is just for show really.

I find the grip on the armadillos is very good. I can only compare with Continental Grand Prix 4 Seasons (good but pricey and didn't last), Vitoria Rubino Pro (felt like I was ice skating), Armadillo Elite Roubaix (rode very nicely, but didn't last as long), Schwalbe Ultremo R (dreamy ride, very fast, but skidded through it in one ride).

  • But the recycled rear tyres have rubber memory and don't have to be trained to roll over and over again.

So if you want to go fast from the outset get rear tyres. But if you don't mind having to pretend beinG a rear tyre and doing forward rolls to show it how it's done, then buy front ones.

Scaring your new tyres with broken glass is discouraged as it tends to make them stiffen up with fear so they don't roll as well.

  • So it begins...

  • That's two votes for dillos.

Make that three. V Happy with them.

  • Armadillos are very good tyres, the road one is reasonably grippy with decent amount of puncture protection.

The other option are the Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase.

  • this is all really helpful guys.

one last thing, my current tyres have got a snazzy blue and white trim that i'm a bit loathe to lose. am i totally insane to go for style over content?

also, no idea what the van damme picture means, but i'm glad this board clearly isnt massively serious. i find it hard to be serious...unless i'm discussing tyres. right guys?

  • Sound like the staff at Evans do know what they're talking about.

It also sound like you were talking to me, as I do tend to sell Armadillos to roadie who want a decent tyres that offer some kind of protection.

  • pukes on cock

Do you want to get off the smug chair?

this took me four whole years and countless pounds to realise, front tyres last 10x as long as rears

There was the odd exception, amongst the slack-jawed catalogue dribblers at Evans Cycles. But then hillbilly left.

  • thanks for the front tyre avice. i had NO idea. is that why my rear tyre always wears down miles quicker?

  • ^yep. Welcome to trade secrets 101.

  • Goes off to do some anti-aliasing.

  • golden...

    Fuck you.
