  • James1822, its now added.

  • I put a Conti 4 season on the back a month ago and its been pretty great so far, no punctures yet! Fucking bitch to get on though, and it is expensive

  • It's also worth reading this, there are some quite serious riders posting on weight weenies:

    http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46009&highlight=tire+test

In other words: take the Tour test with a little bit of salt; the top tyres are reasonably close plus or minus according to preference/criteria; the 4000s isn't a clear "best".

    Courant

  • Courant, you're actually a proper cyclist aren't you?

So, when you're here, are you "slumming it"?

    :) :) :) :)

    Good link by the way.

  • Another vote for Maxxis Re-fuse, have been using them for a couple of years and taking into account price I don't think they can be beaten for puncture protection, even though they cut up like crazy...nothing seems to get through.

  • Here's Maxxis Refuse in different colours, from Oz.

    I want yellow, and red.

When will these come here? Its getting frustrating.

  • How the fuck, scuse myu fucking frech can ProRace3 be "designed puncy=tured toss" whereas Rubino Pro are in the "slightly puncture resistant"? That's bollocks. I might have "designed a bike that does 3000mph but it doesn't mean it actually works. Rubino Pro are FAAAARRRR better than Pro Race 2 or 3 in terms of durability AND cost.

    Epic review fail.

  • any recommendations for durable tubular tires? preferably with a tan sidewall...

    not for skidding.
they will be for a vintage bike with tubular rims.

I see tufo and the conti gatorskins are the most recommended, but anything with a tan sidewall?

  • lol @ the "armadillo rules" tag.

Today I bought a £30 armadillo eilte 23c, and it has a huge fault! At one point the tyre is like 1 cm offset from where it should be. On one side the tyrewall is 1cm too short, and the other side is 1 cm too long, the actual beads are in the wrong place.

exploded an innertube @ 120 psi just as I spotted it was off the rim. I'll be taking it back tomorrow for a replacement, but for £30 I expect a lot better to be honest.

  • is any tyre really worth £30?... it would have to pedal for me for that money.

  • This one clearly wasn't.

  • u paid £30 for armadillo elite ! ! ! where at ? ? ?
    i swear there 20ish

  • specialized concept store (chester).

    They are all around £30...
    http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&q=armadillo%20elite&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf
    and even £35 in evans.

I think normal ones are £25.

  • You can get the normal ones for £20. What's so special about the 'elites' ?

  • They are elite. duh ;)

actually the bloke in the shop said they had more tread.

  • i paid 33 quid for my soma everwear, think it was worth every penny

  • i got mine for 20ish . . .
    unless the dude done a mistake . . .

  • £19 for a folding gatorskin. think they're really good tyres, really skid resistant. but ive had quite a few punctures recently...

  • Halo have been hanging around with the wrong crowd and are jumping on the wagon with these.

Apart from the Soma's they are the only tyres designed for fixed/skidding as far as I know.

I've only used the rigid version but I find them horrible to skid. They grab and chatter and wear out fast. I think they make good front tyres though. They grip well even in crap weather.

I never knew you New Zealanders could be so masculine!

Anyway, with the amount of miles you've done, and tyres you've ridden, I think its time you post a review for real. You're the last poster anyway.

Then I'll take back the nationality insult.

    :) :D

Veloflex? Or, if you can find them, Deda Tre Olimpicos?

  • gatorskins are crap for a rear tyre, full stop. and those halo's are far too expensive.
    see how long they last.
the best tyres have been mentioned by various people, more than once.

  • Randonneurs are shit.

    ( they're not shit - I'm just pissing 31t@um off )
