Alright guys, new here. Anybody know of any decent routes out of town, ie; Hexham, Corbridge. Better still, any good rides around Newcastle, Tynemouth or South Shields area?
Hello Joycey. I'm also new here. I ride to work on a single speed (not fixed) from Corbridge to Gateshead along the Tyne Valley. Most of the route follows the Tyne along Hadrian's Cycleway (C72) and is mostly flat (I can give you more info on the few steeper sections). For a leisure ride, I'd recommend starting from any of the following train stations along the Tyne valley: Stocksfield, Corbridge, Hexham, Haydon Bridge. Follow the C72 next to the river all the way to the Quayside for tea and cake at the cafe in the Baltic. You can even carry on following the river to South Shields. If you want to go in any other direction from Corbridge or Hexham, you'll have to do some climbing. Hope this helps.

Has anybody been to the Velodrome in Boro? Clairville Stadium the place is called. Wouldn't mind a trip up there once the track beast is built up.

The legs ain't what the used to be, on account of me spending more time doing arm related things (wanking and climbing, d'uh!).
On a side note, I'm coming back to the toon.
Edit: Holy fuck, what a flyer!

moving back or visiting?
Initially the latter with a view to do the former ASAP.
No idea why I put it like that. Job interview next week, moving back either way.

Probably, not sure if I'll have my bike with me by then - depends how quickly I get moved into a flat.

Done a bit of Googling on Clairville Velodrome and apparently it's closed to bikes. Shame, it looks a much better surface than Gypsies Green.

Sorry to intrude on the thread, but I saw that Clairville Staidum was mentioned. My dad used to race there and even won track league races there.
As JoyceySouthShields has said, it has been closed to bikes and for some time now, which is a real shame. The only track close by for us Boro lads to use and they shut it.
It is eventually going to be closed and more than likely demolished as Ray Mallon wants to save 50 million a year in the local area. We're going to get a new sports facility up the road at Prissick, but I doubt they'll put a velodrome in. There is a cycling track, but not really for fixed riders.

Sorry, I should've put 'cycling circuit'. It's just a 1km tarmac track that is used for coaching and some races.
When you have a perfectly good velodrome just up the road that the council wants to close it completely and sell it off/demolish it and they give you a 'cycling circuit', it's just pointless.

So.... it's a cycle path that goes nowhere, just round in a circle? No wonder you're bummed. Is this what cycling's been reduced to on Teesside?

Areet guys. We havin a race this weekend then?
Yea man, that Dinnington place looks pretty sweet judging from what I can see on google streetview. I'd be up for it one weekend. Be cool to get a few people involved.
