I used to go at 1am and turn off my lights and sprint round listening to joy division
before it was cool
before it was cool
HTFU and put on another layer. :)

+1 to turning off your lights and cruising around at 1am. On clearer and big moon'ed nights there's enough light to easily see by. Just take extra care and no bombing around.
Last time I did this the last third of the loop (going counter clockwise) had fog lying in the low plains. Riding silently in the dark while two large stags watched me through the midnight fog was a fucking spiritual experience I can tell you.

I find that with lights off in the early hours the deer aren't bothered at all, they stand in the road and watch blankly as you pick your way around them.

I'll be riding with an Exposure Six Pack. The deer won't be able to see for weeks..

This sounds like it could be fun. I'd be up for coming along for a couple of hours, not that I'd be able to keep up. When are you doing it? I've been meaning to have another stab at the three lap challenge anyway - why not at night?
Weather is looking too shit for me to bother. Same thing happened last year - spending 12hr in the pissing rain and dark, going nowhere doesn't have many plus sides. Might do a more interesting ride tomorrow instead.
