  • can i join just for the food and company

  • I think you're supposed to read the same one, by a deadline, and then get together and discuss it to see how you've all interpreted it and stuff. Reading the same book all at once is supposed to motivate you to get it read. Each time you need a new book, the participants propose and vote on the next one to read.

    Something like that.

  • right then I think our first meeting could be sooner if we are going to vote on a book to read.. I don't know how quickly others get through books so should we do this monthly?

  • @ dicki, you can wash dishes??? ;)

  • Shouldn't we pick a book, read it, then have our first meeting?

  • sure if you'd like to do it that way no problem ;)

  • What i am currently reading and or just finished and would suggest:
Jesse Kellerman's brilliant The Brutal Art,
Che Guevara's Episodes of the Cuban Revolutionary War, 1956-58
    And Hemmingway's short stories.

  • Che Guevara's Episodes of the Cuban Revolutionary War, 1956-58

same, stunning book and written in an incredibly humble way

  • And Hemmingway's short stories.

hemingway is my all time favorite. my official suggestion is his novel "a farewell to arms," it is really great and classic, as well as a fairly quick read once you get into it for those people who have a lot going on.

  • ok, so two votes for hemmingway, (I'll go with "a farewell to arms")
@mattty, what do you think then? are you down with hemmingway or do you have another suggestion?

  • Yep, always meant to read some Hemmingway.

  • Hoping this will encourage me to slow down a little when reading.
I tend to race to the end... and end up retaining very little after a week or so.
    Always forget authors, titles... everything!

  • prov, you're in? Cool. So is it settled then Hemmingway's " A farewell to arms" by Feb 17th and we'll have some sort of food like stuff ... if anyone's got special dietary requirements / allergies or stuff they won't eat let me know. ;)

  • so who is in this time? last list is waaaay to old.

    • are we limiting numbers because it's a bit unwieldy to have more than 12-15 people round my gaff comfortably.. (12 bikes is just about manageable.)
  • I could be wrong but I think its just:

    1. Kattt
    2. Mattty
    3. Jacqui
    4. (Dicki - possibly?)
and your good self sir ;)

Completely manageable and I wouldn't want it to be much bigger I think 6 is just about peaking the maximum number of folks I can cook creatively for with out getting too stressed.

  • though I expect when jamie my housemate hears what we've chosen he'll be joining us..at least for hemmingway.

  • This is going to be the londonfgss book and impressive cookery club..
(Bet you $10 that aroogah wants in!)

  • well you know I am going to be first at yours when its your turn! This could turn out to be my fav part of the forum combining 3 of my favourite things. (with any luck) but then you haven't acutally had my cooking so it could be a horrible mistake... lol

  • I will only complain if you fail to accomodate my freegan diet.

  • freegan... hahaha. so then no ones got any dietary restrictions? this could be fun...

    1. Kattt
    2. Mattty
    3. Jacqui
    4. (Dicki - possibly?)
    5. Provenrad
    6. Aroogah - pencil me in

    ahem - I do dishes

  • I eat anything :)

  • Oh yeah - Provenrad I want my cut of the $10 - was that US $10 or CAN $10?

  • Whatever - You'll ony go and spend it on whisky...
Shit - I'm so excited theres a chance I may buy and read this book tonight! argh!
    FAIL

  • hehehe... and it begins ;)
I'm going to raid Jamies room for the book, I am sure he's got it.
@ chris and prov, take the $10 and get some bevies
If the book inspires me to do something particular I will let you know ;)
