regarding lights.
roads at night in the countryside will be pitch black!
so your flashing led light wont really cut it.
Id suggest looking at something that has something towards 10watt output or higher!
Ive been using a BLT light all winter from brighton out into the ye yokall countryside and its spot on with a 15watt output.... -

There is a London to Brighton night ride happening this Friday night
http://www.fridaynightride.com/london/cycle/ride/ctc-friday-night-ride-to-the-coast-brighton--807.aspx
and the Guardian seems to be involved too...

I'd be interested, bearing in mind I've only had a fixed-gear for a month and have yet to ride more than 20 miles in a single stretch during the day, let alone at night.

after last nights fun and games i am really up for this! great fun riding in a bunch but definately need better lights!!!!

i'm in!
need to get better lights though. it's bad enough on the canal with no street lights. it's gonna be even worse in the country. -

hey guys -
are we still up for this, and is anyone going to see the nocturne before we go?
where are we meeting, and shall we start a list?
i'm cycling the route this weekend and am up for it as long as it's not pissing down.
-

This is definately happening unless the weather is a shocker!
A few of us are based in soho and I think we will be heading over to the nocturne about 6, and then head out later!
so lets meet at either 6.30 in soho and then off to the nocturne, and then another meet up point over there?

I'm going to miss this one guys. Gutted, cause it sounds like it's going to be awesome.
If jonny is with you I'm sure you'll have no probs with directions but if not, my 1 tip is to watch out for the turning onto Stanstead rd. From Church rd it's a quick right as soon as you start going down a really steep hill, so very easy to miss.
Also, just be careful out there, some of those country lanes are really tight, and at 3am if some half asleep driver isn't paying attention it could be messy. So make sure you guys are super alert.
Have fun and be safe!

This ride sounds really good. Me and my friend were going to ride Brighton to London during the day but this sounds more fun. Would anyone be insulted if I did it with gears?

DOn't try this without decent lights, i was using a set of borrowed nightriders once and the battery died whilst going very fast. It was tres rediculous
-
• #70
Hey Si you can do it with gears if you want no problem from me mate!
done some research about lights and will be buying more than i already have.
-
• #71
did this yesterday and also back. some of the hills and roads are hairy enough in the daytime. good luck!
-
• #72
am gonna bail on this one actually. decided on enjoying a bit more G at the nocturne and maybe spinning round london, and then doing the Rollapolluza CC ride on Sunday instead. have a good one y'all.
