what is it like cycling down country lanes in the middle of the night?
Wicked fun, Just get all of your old lights out of the cupboard and strap them on!

this sounds stupedously sketchy. Especially following a night of heavy drinking.....rad

PS. just how heavy are these hills? are we talking a requirement to fu*k about with gearings prior to depature?

it's fuckin awesome.
awesome and surreal... you can't tell how fast you're going, and if there's a string of flashing tail lights in front of you it can get mesmerising! at least that's my experience from the dynamo two years back.
just make sure you've got a couple of good lights on front and back and it's pretty safe, i reckon.

I will confirm meeting place on sunday! also leaving times!
as said it's a laugh nothing more. I'm going to ride my lopro fixed so am not going to be breaking any speed limits! and my gearing will probably be out so the hills will BURN! but i just want to see if i can do it, take my time and have a laugh! some will probably be quicker and we will probably split up a bit but who care?!!Ok list of people so far:

Yeah it's an old model - retro. Picked it up back in 2012.

I'd likely be up for this too.. I'm another brighton-dweller. Have to go and practice the hills though, so I don't get shown up.
If us B'towners travel up in in multiples of four, we can get half-price train tix. Could also get returns and split with the Londoners..
Jack Sprat could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean. Yet between the two of them, they licked the platter clean.

This sounds pretty dangerous. I reckon I am in. Depends on the wife she has been makinf noises recently about me being more into my bike than her. She has a point I guess!
PS. just how heavy are these hills? are we talking a requirement to fu*k about with gearings prior to depature?
There are about 3 hills which are no problem and then there is this Ditchling Beacon. I would say that it would be physically impossible to get up the Beacon with a gearing much over about 72. I was worried about the Beacon and I will say that it was much much worse than what I was expecting!
Hope that ain't put you off though

Ha ha.
The beacon is a pig, and not what you want after 50 miles, but it's doable - plenty have done it and lived to tell the tale (have yet to myself tho).
There are flatter routes into town but you gotta do it cos it's tradition!

I just about managed it on 48x18. Any higher and I would have been going in reverse for sure
-
• #44
i'm up for this, but will need a decent front light. does anybody have a spare they can lend me for the night?
-
• #45
i'm going to run to lights and i'm quite sure there will be some spares?
Crank they"ll be a few of us up for the return tickets deffo!
I will go in the sea if there is a few of us not freezing my nuts of as entertainment for every one else!

• #46
+1 on the return... but wont it be the next day?

and both brighton and london people will be getting the train in the same direction, so returns can't happen anyway.
-
• #48
OH YEAH!!! engage brain! didn't think of that!!!!
-
• #49
on another note can any one suggest any pubs on route from soho south that will be bike friendly (what ever that is?)

I would not bother leaving until closing time otherwise you will arrive at Brighton at 3 in the morning with nothing to do.
I'm convinced!
