When a bicycle has been in a collision it can bend the frame as well as the forks; the damage may not be as obvious on the frame.
Specifically, ripples on the underside of the downtube near the area of the headtube would indicate that the frame has been involved in a head-on crash (been there).
It sounds like the seller is communicating well - did you ask where the forks are? it is not often that a frame + forks get seperated without good reason. (I am suspicious..)
As you are getting it painted anyway then getting the forks done to match is not a big deal.
Expect to pay up to £15 for some steel threaded forks with rubbish paint. The length of the steerer is important, and you may need to get them threaded to fit the frame. -

Hey Whatamidoing, have you noticed the huge amount of racing bikes riding round the inner circle in Regents Park of a morning? or do you not go that way?
-
• #108
people ride there for training.
-
• #109
hmmm its a nice spot, almost like you are not in the city
-
• #110
never ridden there, might start training there when i get back..
-
• #111
training for what, chris?
-
• #112

I was planing on doing some track racing this season, but looks like im geting a late start...
-
• #117
I ride that way some mornings, take my time and enjoy the ride, but you sound like you have further to go so probably have to crack on a bit
-
• #118
it is nice around there... but Hyde park is not bad either... but soon i don't get to ride there anymore as they have moved our unit to hammersmith hospital next to wormwood scrubs...(sigh)
before I forget! Thank you very much for all your input so far... I have decided to learn to build a fgss bike instead of buying a langster...
likely to go for the 103 frame ... get a new fork... and powder coat it... and then.... well the sky the limit :D
Please be patient with me as I will a lot more question to ask...
-
• #119
Just make sure that you get a fork that fits!
But yeah, good luck mate, it'll be fun.

Cheers H2O currently being out bid, but still have 6 days... so give me some time to find other frame...
if you could shed some light...
I need..
1) horizontal rear drop out
2) preferable with one that that have the fork intact
3) right size for me....(56) -

anything else?
-
• #122
anything else?
Some fairly standard threading on the bottom bracket shell - avoid BB shells with less common threads.
-
• #123
english thread and 68mm diameter is pretty standard?
so you think the peugot frame is ok... there are a few one inch thread forks on e-bay at the moment!
so bite the bullet and go for it?
:D -

:DI've never built up a Pug, but they'll probably have French threading. I don't really understand what the concern is about the threading - if you buy a miche BB from Condor (about £10-15) they'll give you cups for whatever threading you need, as I recall, and you can always pester people on Ebay about whatever it is they're selling.
Anything English or Japanese should have English threading. Don't know about the threading on those Dutch Gazelles, but they're pretty bomb-proof bikes and nicely made.
But yeah, if it looks like it'll fit and it's a reasonable deal, go for it!

shit! i got overtaken by a woman on a shopper bike this morning, fuck this fixed lark i'm getting me one of them.
"so ask the seller to confirm that the downtube is not rippled underneath where it meets the headtube lugs,"
I asked him or her... and the seller confirmed that it is not rippled....
sorry for being thick but what does that mean?
