That was a fun night out. Good to see a couple of familiar faces and meet a couple of new ones. Some of the bikes outside were very nice indeed. The bloke who got huffy about bikes parked on the inside of the fence that were 'damaging the communal hedges' was funny. I don't think he gave a toss about the hedges, it was just a pissy 'territory' thing. Good night though.

so the record was beaten by 2/100'ths of a second but aren't the timers using hand held stopwatches?
or is the timing electronic?
if they are handheld how can that be accurate? if people make it through the rounds by being timed by different people and beating others by fractions of a second shouldn't the timing be more accurate? -

I imagine it added to the excitement on the night.
Whether it is statistically relevant is another matter. It sounds like it was a very successful night, I'm sure there will be opportunities to 'settle scores' later in the summer.

i guess there may have been a frisson of anticipation as the riders glanced into the eyes of the timekeepers, is that a promise of sexual favors? given or received? will he knock 2 tenths off my time?
i didn't quit rolleracing because i'm slow it was the ambiguous nature of the eye contact with caspar that gave me the fear.

Apologies Mr Smith, I didn't realise you were flirting wit me! My eye was on the job in hand.
Yeah you are right, the timing of the racers is only as accurate as the person operating the stop watches, who will inevetably be inconsistent to a degree. There are also bound to be small differences in the equipment and components both on the roller rigs no matter how well maintained they are.
What matters most is the atmosphere that these events create and I haven't been impressed by any of the digital displays of starting and timekeeping. I don't think you can beat a big ol' mechanical clock.
and vb
thanks again for the t shirt.
they are really cool.
