This little essay doesn't automatically disqualify you from being a hipster you know.
That last sentence is utter bollocks. They're just bikes at the end of the day, they don't have names to sully and anyone who reads into that nonsense has nothing better to do...normal people just get on their bike and ride it. Yeah it's annoying when an utter douchebag has a better bike than me but I get over it. Scoot's right when she says surely more people riding bikes is a good thing no matter who they are! As an instructor I find it annoying that alot of these people are inexperienced riders and think they can jump straight on a fixed and ride well but that's life and hating on them isn't going to change anything. You don't ride a bike everyday because it's 'cool', if you don't enjoy it you soon bore of it. It's a life choice.
This 'hipster' term is stupid too. Yes the obvious trendy idiots who are really into things because other people are too deserve it but 90% of the time someone being a 'hipster' is in the eye of the beholder. I get called a hipster quite often, sometimes it's annoying, sometimes I just laugh. Yep I'm an ex model who's dated some famous people, lived in some trendy cities, wears Vans and pretty clothes, is into art and books and rides a nice cleanly built (by myself) fixed gear. I also spend four days a week teaching people to ride, another two days a week teaching mechanics and playing polo with kids and my spare time planning bicycle related activities such as film screenings as well as riding 900 miles to the capital of hipsterdom that is Berlin for Cancer Research. So tell me, am I giving a bad name to bikes? Are my 'hipster' friends who work with me doing so too?
tl;dr

Yeah, what I read was:
Blah blah blah hipster. Blah blah blah, hipster, blah blah blah.
