there's a strange correlation between rhcp and their audience... in the 90's you had passable frat-guy rock with a few interesting ideas that promised so much ---> now where all you get is dire, predictable, corporate approved, flaccid regional sales manager 'rock' that makes you want to end it all.

RHCP was over in 1991, after BSSM. Anything after that was nothing but jokes.

They arguably came into their own when they discovered harmonies and when Frusciante came to the fore. My favourite was also 'BSSM' though, probably. Not that I've listened to them for ages (hipster disclaimer).
