  • sorted for me now.

  • 4 is the dev channel.

But 4 has extensions... which means you can get adblock back.

    Extensions here: http://www.chromeextensions.org/

  • I seem to have lost the box of upcoming stuff and the calender? Chrome, Windows Shitsta

  • Nah, re-designed the header again to reduce a few extra http requests per page before we went to full SSL.

I'll probably be making more changes along the lines of "reduce http requests" in the future, but I'll also be looking for ways to add things back in where I can do it just with text and css.

  • Ok, cool.

  • is the forum slower today, or it's just me??

  • It could be because of the switch to HTTPS/SSL. You cannot connect via HTTP any more, all requests are diverted to HTTPS. This means that because of the encryption, there is no caching. Also, the server has to encrypt everything, send it as normal and then the browser has to decrypt. Internet Explorer is notoriously slow for this. Chrome is one of the best, Firefox is ok.

  • I know you'll probably put it back, when you have the time and inclination but I for one and missing the upcoming events, and social beers header, got a fellow I met in stockholm coming over and trying to figure out what is going on for this weekend, so I can point him in the general direction of us cool kids is proving difficult.

off to check the calendar. but too many people don't actually put stuff in the calendar...

    ho hum..

  • OK, I've got the server flying along, but somehow I've broken logging in.

I've fixed it for http:// users, but ironically (given that this is the way I wan to go) it remains broken for SSL users on https://

If you want to use SSL, just login on http:// and then add the s afterwards.

  • That doesn't work, if i add the s after i've logged in, it logs me out..

is this what was giving me my "exceeded log in attempts" lock out since 18:30 tonight (just cured), or was that just someone trying to crash my log in details?

Hmmm, appears to work for me... I'll try it again.

  • Yup, that definitely works.

    Login under http://

Then add the s to make it https://

  • I like the fact that the top right hand corner search box now has a default setting of searching for the title of threads rather than in the entire threads.
    Thank you for that.

    sorry if i missed something.

  • Yup, that definitely works.

    Login under http://

Then add the s to make it https://

If I do that I get a page saying 'sorry no matches' as if i've searched for something, and I'm logged out.

  • I fix one thing to break another... http:// now flies, but https:// bounces back to http://

I'll look into it tomorrow evening... I'm afraid it's http:// until then.

  • I may have missed something, but when did that subtle Skype thing that converts phone numbers into image files (as seen, for instance, in the Phone Numbers thread: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread4828.html) come in?

  • It doesn't... you updated Skype or something and it's put a hook into your browser and doing that in your browser.

  • Oliver, you switch off JavaScript in your browser but you use SKYPE!?

  • I have to use the https version of the site at work- otherwise the NetMarshall firewall blocks every page for offensive content.

This never used to be an issue (apart from the annoying mixed content pop-up).

Now however the site tries to serve each new page as http despite coming from the https front page, so the page gets blocked and I have to add the "s" to the http to allow the page through.

  • I'm having an issue when browsing the "For Sale" threads - I can't go past the first page of results. Second page says "no results found."

VB is correct. It is caused by extensions in some of the latest Skype download packages. If you don't find them useful, they are easily disabled:

    https://support.skype.com/faq/FA10227/When-I-open-a-web-browser-in-Skype-for-Windows-4-1-I-see-Skype-buttons-on-web-pages-What-are-they-for?frompage=search&q=phone+numbers+on+web+pages

When you install Skype, you get an automatic browser extension which picks up any phone numbers or Skype Names on a web page. You can see the contact's online status, and click on the person or number to call them directly from the web page via Skype.

It's easy to turn off this feature if you don't find it useful. You can click on the Skype icon in your browser's toolbar, or uninstall it completely from the Windows Control Panel.

  • Thanks, guys. I don't use Skype and only installed it briefly for a specific purpose. And I really should have made the connection myself. D'oh. :)
