Subtle changes, bugs and feedback

  • A very minor thing: when highlighting text in order to quote it in a reply, I get the first line prefixed with one '>' but all the other lines prefixed with '>>'.

  • Cos I posted in the Search thread before I saw this discussion about the same thing, coincidentally

    Sorry;)

Also, even more subtle--when I highlight text to quote and drag the highlighting a little further, it adds an additional line at the bottom of the quote (prefixed with '>>'), as above. Not sure what it picks up then to cause that additional line. Sorry if this shows up as something rather confusing in skydancer's 'Following' stream. :)

  • @Velocio I'm sure this has been asked before, but once you close a thread is that it, i.e. can you re-open it?

    Thanks.

  • Can I? Yes.

    Can you? No.

It comes down to permissions, and could be configured differently but people were using it to open and close threads at will just to control the degree of conversation that could occur.

Mild hissyfits in other words, and attempting to use a forum as a publishing platform that they control.

The solution was to figure out that closing things isn't the issue, as there are a lot of good reasons to close something... but opening things is typically the issue and also the rarer action.

If you have accidentally closed something, I'll open it for you if you give me the URL. If someone closed something in a hissyfit I typically will re-open.

I don't typically re-open adverts that have been closed, as closed is a good way to indicate sold.

  • Thanks David.

I don't typically re-open adverts that have been closed, as closed is a good way to indicate sold.

I'd closed a for sale thread as I'd listed the frame on eBay, but it hasn't sold so I was going to re-open the thread and drop the price significantly.

  • I can do that... point me at it.

  • Thanks David.

  • @Velocio is there any reason why my profile says I've been a member since Aug 2014 (presumably forum V2) when I think I joined in 2009? I feel it's important people know I was here whilst Duffy was in the charts and people were skidding legs bent over riser bars. Thanks

  • Did you used to have different accounts and usernames? I suspect so, Aug 2014 is when we moved onto Microcosm, and you may have used a different email address and account before then and decided not to sign in with that email at that time.

  • Thanks for the reply. Not that I remember, I kept my email and username (& avatar) the same. Casting my mind back I think I even paid some money to protect my username for when we moved over to Microcosm? If it provides any light at all here's a thread I created on the previous platform. Thanks for the help

  • Yeah, you moved from Hotmail to Gmail. I think you saw the migration as an opportunity to sign in with the email address you were then using.

This one will take time, I'll do it this evening.

A question... do you have a lot of PMs? Do you need to keep them?

    What I'll be doing:

    1. Swap the emails around so your gmail accesses the old account.
    2. Move all comments, threads, etc from jambon to the old account.
    3. Change the usernames around
    4. Move all event attendance, etc
    5. (Optional) move all PMs
    6. Delete the current account so that only one account exists, being the old one but it will now have all of the content of both accounts.

I only ask about PMs, as I don't do this stuff by default, as it will involve me looking at some random PMs to confirm things went well (I don't sit and read them, I'll just glance at metadata).

  • Firstly thanks very much for offering to do this in what is my mistake by changing email addresses during the Microcosm upgrade. Regarding the PM's there's only one I'd like to keep and that's the latest one I sent yesterday regarding Rapha, the rest I don't mind losing. I have no problem with you going into my inbox if needs be!

If I need to sign-out during this time when you're kindly making these changes just let me know, I'm more than happy to do so. Thanks again for offering to do this it's much appreciated, having one tidy account does scratch my continuity itch.

  • Signing out is possibly wise, but you'll be force signed out anyway. If you are forced signed out... just head to the home page before signing in, regardless of any error messages you see ;)

  • Thank you very much - I'll report back just to confirm all is okay once done \0/

  • What's up with the auto link here, boss?

    https://www.lfgss.com/comments/13277283/

  • Looks like a bug, unbalanced brackets.

Ah, it's caused by the underscore before the opening bracket I think.

Will check this weekend as it's quite obscure.

BTW, you'd just entered the URL:
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinding_(dance)

    salmonchild entered the Markdown:

    Which is:
    [text](url)
    [LFGSS](https://www.lfgss.com)

    Which yields:
    LFGSS

  • Cool. I just pasted the URL on my phone. No magics. That's why I figured it was a bug rather than my incompetence.

  • But seriously. That pic.

  • Thank you very much - I'll report back just to confirm all is okay once done \0/

    This is all done.

Your profiles merged, the other deleted, everything moved over.

You need to sign in again using your Gmail account.

Note: The only quirk is watched items... anything you have followed in the last couple of years didn't get merged, so you'll want to re-follow things you are interested in, and will want to manually follow+email alert any PMs you care about.

Also... I didn't read or even check the PMs. The numbers from SQL queries looked good, so I didn't verify.

  • Thank you once again, very satisfying to see both accounts joined up and all comments and threads documented in my profile. Not having watched threads listed is a very small price to pay and this will only take me a few minutes. Cheers David!

  • Feature idea: Have you considered doing RSS/Atom feeds of forums/threads/following/etc?

  • Yes, but it's a question of time as I'm the only developer working on this.

  • Aye, no worries
