Subtle changes, bugs and feedback

  • Can we implement the konami code into the forum please?

  • I still seem to be having issues with image loading, but on my home PC at the moment. I'm running Win7/Chrome v20.0.1132.57 m

I'm browsing the last 4 or 5 pages of the HHSB thread and sometimes it's fine, other times it just gets stuck loading some/most of the images, like right now where I have 2/3 of a page of little grey squares where images are trying to load, some loaded and the chrome page loading whirl-a-majig is spinning away happily. It's been sitting like this for a few minutes. As soon as I refresh, it seems to be OK again... Refreshing hasn't worked in this instance.

  • Have you fully shut your browser recently?

  • Yah, freshly booted this evening, restarted a moment ago (I noticed Chrome had updated and wanted a restart)...

  • I'm not seeing any images at all and the CSS doesn't seem to be working either.

    Ubuntu 10.04 / Links 2.2

  • I use both lynx and links from time to time, one thing you can be sure of is the site working there.

Personally I dislike links layout, lynx remains much nicer.

I wish they supported vim commands though. I can't help but : everything.

  • Does Lynx really help you attract women?

    Just curious.

  • I have no luck when he's around.

Mind you I have no luck when he's not. The jury's out on this one...

  • Been getting these on and off for the last 15 minutes:

  • The servers are all fine, none of them over 50% load and all reporting services are fine.

I dread to think what might be behind that help resource link... could you post it here so I can read it and then laugh.

I'll see if I can find out what the problem is in the meantime.

  • Will do, if it shows up again ;)

  • Avatar oddities:

    IPhone 4s. Safari
Somewhere in system it says 5.1.1

  • Did nobody tell you? You're in "Being Cornelius Blackfoot"

  • Wow, could you imagine!?

    Another amusing screenshot:
(by the way none of this bothers me at all, just feel like I should tell someone about it!)

Are all the avatars people with stars?
(is it b&d, Clefty, photoben, mashton, big red, scarftash and multigrooves?)

  • Been getting these on and off for the last 15 minutes:

I got a load of this when the BBC coverage of the cycling switched to badminton yesterday, but I'm in forrenland, so knew exactly who to blame.

  • I'm in forrenland as well, but don't know who to blame...

  • Been getting these on and off for the last 15 minutes:

I just saw one of those.

I dread to think what might be behind that help resource link... could you post it here so I can read it and then laugh

  • Gesticulate more, and talk louderer.

    Worked for me.

  • I'm going to remove CloudFlare.

I am unconvinced by it because:
    1) Google PageSpeed reports that pages are now taking longer to load
    2) GoogleBot reports that pages now take more than twice as long to load
    3) PayPal IPN reports errors communicating with LFGSS.com and this is leading to issues in processing payments
    4) Users are occasionally seeing CloudFlare "Site Down" pages when all of the servers report that they are fine and I have no evidence that the site is actually down.

And what I feel is the biggest reason:

    5) The tools and interfaces provided by CloudFlare offer no way to solve the above issues. I don't have the transparency into their systems that allow me to debug these events. I cannot see when the Site Down page is served, average time to serve an uncached page, etc... and without that info I cannot cross-reference it to my own logs to then solve any issue.

As far as I can tell, CloudFlare is not a good solution for a site that is largely dynamic, though may well be a great solution for a mostly static site (blog or corporate site).

The removal won't be instant, I want to keep the site up without issue during the last of the Olympic track events.

  • Yeah, maybe it will be near instant.

Done some squirrelling and with a DNS changeover and a few minor config changes the old system will be back in place later today.

  • Just in case anybody was wondering (and I assume nobody was), the forum seems fine on Windows 8 and IE10.

  • Just got some sort of pop-up survey come up as a re-direct from LFGSS. I assume it's at my end so running a scan now

  • Absolutely at your end. I ship no such stuff.
