  • This is just asking for people to start guessing the keywords to fill said queue, childish behaviour that I would heartily condone.

  • The email spam filter at my old firm, a law firm specialising in insurance and reinsurance law, was triggered if the word "insurance" was mentioned four times in a message. The word "penis" required ten utterances. The words "terrorism" and "war" provoked an immediate block which was a bit of a nuisance when debating the drafting of complex reinsurance wordings with critical war and terrorism exclusions and termination clauses.

Oh how we laughed when we could not access urgent emails. We were happy to be able to mull over spam emails telling us how to grow our penises while waiting for IT to clear those emails..

  • Did you take advantage of any of the penis growing offers that were available?

  • No. Working in a firm like that there were simply too many large penises already.

  • Given that this is a cycling forum, I chose not to block the word penis for fear that it might disappoint too many attendees of the sausage parties.

Words blocked are far more dull, they include ones relating to Uggs as there is a particularly aggressive Chinese spammer who continues to try and sell us bargain fake Uggs to this day.

  • London Fixed Price and Single Ugg?

  • So we're discriminating against fake Neanderthal impersonators?

    Ugg, Ugg Ugg, UGG!

    or something :)

  • One of gaston's latest posts in anti thread broke the Internet on iPad.
    The links, specifically.

  • Gaston Fr had posted a large number of large images, the large images caused the system to convert the images to hyperlinks to spare slowing the site excessively. The result of that is the many image links ran into each other as he had put no spaces between them... so it looked ugly.

I've gone back and inserted spaces between the links and it now looks OK.

  • can you filter out all pictures with seatposts on backwards?

  • There is no image processing at all, the only check on images is that the web browser doesn't believe the image is above a certain width or height.

  • Im sure if you direct the stream of all the pending images to DJ [somehow, notifications via mobile phone may be a good idea here] he will be happy to filter them manually.

  • I will filter the National Pornographic photos that were being submitted to the Picture of the Day thread.

  • A very subtle but large change... I've moved the DNS provider, added a content distribution network (mirrored on several continents) and added a security layer.

The effect of this is that the site should be much faster for all overseas users, and slightly faster for even us Londoners, and should be much more secure (stop attacks designed to try and steal the database, etc).

  • BTW, I'm very much interested in the perception that people have on this change. It's costing me money and I want to know in basic terms, is it worth it?

If you feel that the site is consistently faster, snappier and easier to use since 11am on 22nd July 2012, then let me know.

If you feel that there is no difference, let me know.

If you feel it's slower now, let me know (including which city and country you're located in and how you're accessing the site - wifi, mobile, broadband).

Don't let me know this second... it hasn't been long enough for you to know. Let me know next week or the week after.

  • forum had been running slow in the past week or so, will be interesting to see if it is better now

  • Linode stats say you're wrong, forum has been fast. I assume your connection must have been slow, or maybe your machine.

The CDN might still make that feel faster, but that's the point of asking.

  • Anyone on a Linux system should already be seeing the speed improvements btw. Macs may take longer to see the changes, Windows machines probably will take a day to see the changes.

  • the forum feels indeed faster VB, I´m in Berlin, Germany with a shity movile stick connection

  • either my machine or connection but it is still taking a while to open pages

  • other websites are opening much faster, which is odd as usually the forum is quick

  • The problem is at your end. Pages are loading in 0.35 seconds here.

  • why only lfgss going slowly?

  • I have no idea James. But as the problem is at your end and not mine, I suggest you speak to your ISP.

Seriously... every page is loading in less than half a second. If you're seeing something different contact your ISP.
