  • i'm getting sidi road shoes to go with my fixed. what pedals should i get? i'm considering speedplay (road), look (road) and time (mtb).

  • The answer is in the thread's title.

  • I have some Time Challenge Pros kicking about which I will never use - they came with my bike and I'm a clips'n'straps man. Scratches but otherwise fine. Anyone?

  • Horatio - unless you like to rotate the cleat to accommodate some foot turnage.

well if you get road shoes you have to use 3 bolt road cleats.

so MTB pedals like the time atac will be off the agenda

that's what i thought. how is using mtb shoes on a fixed then?

  • how is using mtb shoes on a fixed then?

brilliant for riding fixed on the road, especially if you have to do any walking

  • for skidding etc the general consensus is that mtb clips work best

this is why fixed riders tend to use mtb shoes (sidi dominators are quite popular)

generally people are using atac (alium or atac xs) or spd pedals

  • good point RPM, they are much easier to walk around in

You can use atac's on some road shoes. I have both the road and mtb version of the specialized sport bg shoe and atacs fit on both

  • so, it's between time atac or spd (mtb). spd's are double sided, easier to access?

  • harald: Time Atacs are double sided... And trust me they are better than SPD's.. have been using both.

  • Time ATACs are a revelation, in, out, shake it all about, you can do the hokey cokey, then turn around, and frankly that's what it's all about.

  • +1 for the ATACs. Great stuff, plus you get just about enough to pedal on when nipping to the shops in your trainers...

  • Btw, I'm using atac aliums on my everyday trackbike atm and they have been working great since I got them.

But how are peoples feelings about the more expensive variants? I remember some person posting that he/she trusted the steel springs more than the springs in the XS-pedals.. anyone got any long time experience with the XS-pedals, and skidding/NoBrakes? Thinking about going for something a bit more exotic for my plastic-fantastic monsterbike :)

  • Which flavour of Time ATAC pedal would you peeps recommend?....Alium or ROC or ROC S or XS......Too much choice?.....Are the more expensive varieties worth The extra GN?....Particularly the diff between the ROC and ROC S....which seems to be no more than a cosmetic difference.....or am i wrong?

  • I've only used aliums, and I've never had a problem with them. If you're just using for riding on the streets, go for aliums, I'd say.

If I had had the money at the time, I might have got the more expensive ones that are lighter, but since I only use them on the street it probably isn't worth it anyway!

  • you pays for what you get, even though they are all good.

  • you pays for what you get, even though they are all good.

More than a grain of truth in that adage...but what about the law of diminishing returns?....The ROC & XS look great.....but is difference between the two types worth it?....Anybody got experience using either the ROC [with or without the S] or the XS?

  • I had Aliums for a while. Great pedals. Buy them!

  • used both alium and roc, the roc is just better. its obvious really, it's a better construction, better feel, better look - definitely get what you pay for.

the aliums were great, but they started to rattle slightly when not clipped in, silent when clipped in though (this is the biggest issue i had with them).

if it's going on your bike for a long time and you want to forget about it, get the roc. even when you notice them they'll look badass as well. they don't seem to wear at all.

  • I have Time atac xs, not one problem in 6 years.
My first and only clipless pedal so I have nothing to compare them with.
You will then need a pair of Sidi Ergo 2.

I will have to make do with Lake RX-5......or will the pedals only work with Sidi Ergo 2s?????

  • the ergo's are road shoes, so the atac's will not fit.
