Ah my bad, I just glanced at the sole and saw it lack 'meat'. Thought they were road.
You can use those shoes with ATACs then.

thanks I also found some dhb shoes that has the uses spd cleats (is this is the same as the time atac?) http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-m1-mtb-shoes/
I think I'll fork out the extra money for the XS pedals as people on the forums have said the bearings will last a lot longer than the Alium in this price range are the Speedplay Frogs have any of your guys used both?
What I have seen so far it is quite a mixed bag. -

Shimano RT range is is their Road Touring SPD shoe so are for 2 hole MTB cleats. Recessed for walking too.
Thanks adoubltap for pointing that out I think I'll stick with the RT's then cheaper too.

Aliums seem to last a while. I've got 2 sets that are now over 10 years old - zero attention, loads of use and abuse. Still function perfectly. One of the best bang-for-buck bike components you can buy.

Thanks for the feedback mate they are going so cheap on wiggle at the moment still deciding between XS or Alium I just want to make the decision ha, I have the money to spend the extra but is it really worth it?
Ps Has anyone used this site before http://www.shinybikes.com/time-atac-xs-pedals.html not sure if it seems legit? -

Anybody got an opinion on what the Z or Z Control models are like to use in normal shoes? I quite fancy something where I can jump on for a quick ride (wa-hey) in trainers or such-like and I already have Aliums on my other bike.
I use time Z's. Good for finding the pedal, but shit for riding in trainers, the spring sticks out too much.
Speaking of which, i just snapped the spring on one side of my left pedal after ~6months use, anyone know where to order the spring and tools from in the uk? The only one i could find online was a US site

Cheers mate. Have you got a pair of ATACs yourself? And if so do you really like them?

seems as the brass cleats don't last a year (walking up hills)
that is two pairs @ £30 x 10 years = loadsi have had spd cleats last me nearly ten years
-
• #361
Yeah, SPD cleats are super-durable.
-
• #362
^^The cleats don't last as long as spds, but I still get about 4-5 years out of pair. A lot of shoes wear out more quickly than that.
SPD pedals are prone to misclips that then refuse to let go of your foot, and are shit if any kind of earthy substances contaminates the pedal or cleat. Other than that, they're great.
Also you don't need 2 sets of cleats for 2 sets of pedals, do you? Only for 2 sets of shoes (admittedly, I have 2 pairs of shoes)

i knew you had two pairs of shoes

SPD does last for a long time, but what I didn't like about it is how they stick out of your shoes.
the TIME and Eggsbeater cleat is thinner which rarely come in contact with the ground.
I still would pay extra for new cleat every year though, cannot get enough of TIME.

• #367
There's never enough time.

• #368
so does everyone in this thread think that Time ATACs are the best going for commuting compared to Speedplays Frogs/Zeros and Crank Bro's Candy/Eggbeaters?
With Time are all their road pedals only single entry for example the AllRoad Gripper? Would really appreciate the feedback cause I want to get my pedals as soon as. -

If you're a wrong'un SPD pedals are prone to misclips that then refuse to let go of your foot, and may be shit if any kind of earthy substances contaminates the pedal or cleat but being steel you can easily smash any crap out of them.
My old Nike ACG shoes had the original SPD cleats on them. fade to fond memories

Dude - stop obsessing and just pick one. Time's are good. SPDs are good. Frogs are good. Eggbeaters are good. It's all about personal taste but until you start to ride on them you won't have any sort of personal experience to draw on.
Start with one of them and go from there, learn what they're like, and then make your mind up to change or keep your decision.
Besides your "umm-ing" and "aah-ing" is only delaying your riding in the nice weather. That's criminal.

Try the shoes first to see if it's comfortable before deciding on them.

I really like the look of these shoes now http://www.alwaysriding.co.uk/chrome-kursk-pro-spd-shoes-897.html
I usually wear canvas type shoes out when I go cycling cause I don't like too heavy of a shoe. My LBS doesn't supply these unfortunately but do you think they will still be walkable with the ATAC cleats.
Sorry for so many questions but this is my first pair of clipless pedals/shoes -
• #374
I'd go for Sidi Dragon 2's instead, but they are a bit spendy.

Practice proped against a wall first.
Then in a car park or quiet road.
All clip-in pedals are designed to allow you to pull up without unclipping. The first time you start to topple your brain will tell you to pull up to unclip. We've all done the topple (me with my son in a child seat).I've bought loads of stuff from shiny bikes. Had good luck with them. Not Time pedals though. I currently run CB Quattros (fixed), CB Candys (SS), BeBop Stainless (commuting), and Look Keo max (road).
The Crank brothers system feel natural to me. But the Bebops look after my knees.
