  • stelle's got some female-specific Sidis - you could PM her.

Anyhow, I'd go to a shop and try on men's shoes too... if they come in the right size. Compare and contrast.

  • You are an androgypede.

  • Thank you kindly. And for the diagnosis :(

From what I've read, going a size up in the Sidis seems to be fairly usual.

  • 9 times out of 10, yes.

  • Same goes for Shimano these days too. And Mavic.

  • Well, it looks like a lot of Sidi 'men's' shoes are available down to size 36 (which would be a 35 in normal shoes, whatever the fuck they are).

    But the women's only go down to 38 (i.e. 37) :S

I suppose some of the men's are marketed at youth riders.

The only difference really is that women's Sidis all come with a 5" heel. Carbon heel, mind.

  • You could always get some modestly priced shoes and spunk some dosh on a Sidas footbed sesh for a seriously custom fit.

  • Hmmm. Well, I would be tempted if it wasn't for the reactionary undertones on that blurb - "A cyclist’s feet have very little self-correction opportunity".

I thought that sort of thing went out in the fifties. I am going to encourage my feet towards self-acceptance, whatever the social stigma.

  • apparently they have to be made out of brass, otherwise steel would wear the bars in the retainers on the pedal

aha ! so thats the reason. good call.

  • Also, atacs only work with Sidi's ;)

Were you being serious when you said that? it doesn't appear to have any problem using an MTB shoes that's not Sidis with the Atac.

  • i was not being serious, some people have had to cut away bits on touring shoes, i was just saying sidis are probably the best cycling shoes you can buy and combined with atacs make a great pedal setup, but i do like those mavics

  • oh yes, I have a Bontrager Race Mountain shoes I got at a discount for £45 from the LBS whose cut away is pretty deep, and the Atac just about fit in neatly.

clipping in and off the Atac is surprisingly easy actually, I like the fact it's a little harder to clip off than your usual pedals thought, felt a bit confident especially brakeless.

  • I switched to ATACs from SPDs because:

    • mud-shedding with the SPDs was wank.

    ....

This has making me want to switch from spds, the smallest amount of mud clogs them up.

  • i cant seem to figure out the difference between any of the roc atac's

they all weight 384 grams all the evans website is the same. anyone wanna enlighten me?

Good to hear, just remember tiny things like if your unclipping with your left foot, lean on the left side of your handlebar. This makes it impossible to have an unclip fail (unclip one foot, fall opposite way etc).

    Clipless for the win.

the cheapest one I notice have a steel axles whether the more expensive one have chrome axles, that what I've notice in both the Roc and the Roc S, the chrome is much more resistance to the elements.

good point, I realise that removing my feet from a pedal clips is fast and easy, so if I happen to fall on my right while removing my feet on my left, I was able to simply take off the feet on the left on time before I fell.

  • The cheapest Aliums i use, have so far suffered all weather riding almost every day without even a hitch, still in perfect order.
Only consideration with the Roc's IMO is the look and of course the price and perhaps the weight if your that way inclined.
Either way, all ATACS, by what people say, are made to last and take a good ol' beating.
Great cleat pedals much better than SPD's cos of the retention is much more positive
i.e you know when your clipped in or not, and when your clipped in, you have the confidence that you'll stay clipped in no matter how much force you apply.
    Can't go wrong.

  • the carbon composite body on the ROC/XS is tougher, but not lighter.

  • Coming from Shimano and Eggbeaters, it does feel much much better, especially compared to riding on Eggbeaters which isn't exactly comfortable with the small size of it and MTB shoes.

You will get used to it in no time and after a while unclipping will be much easier than taking your feet out of clips & straps.

  • ^ You feelin' the ATAC love now then Max?

given how stiff the Atac is, I somewhat highly doubt that, but netherless will get easier in time, particularly trackstanding while clipped in.

Yeah baby, have done for a little while now.

  • +1 for Aliums

Cheap and more or less indestructible.

Ed - I recently moved from clips to Aliums too ... you WILL get used to them. You WILL also take a couple of tumbles in the process too, but they'll be of the 0 mph horizontal trackstand variety.
