I bought some xc4's for my work bike, partly because my current cleats are knackered and I could get a new set of pedals AND new cleats for the price of two sets of cleats... Oh what a lovely surprise it was to find easy cleats in the box!
So now I've still got to buy new cleats anyway! :( -

I need another set of ATACS.
What’s the verdict on these Time XC2 pedals? Are they worthy substitutes for the discontinued Aliums?

I've just got a set, haven't used them yet fitted them to the bike this afternoon.
First impressions out of the box they look ok, completely plastic body and don't appear as sturdy as the Aliums they will replace, which have lasted me about 7 years, time will tell if these get anywhere near that.
They come with crappy easy cleats as BRP says, so you'll need to shell out for cleats separately which is annoying.

SPD's weren't loving the mud at Thundercross.

I have a pair of Aliums that you can have for a fiver if you want them. They have an end cap missing on one pedal (right I think), but if you have an old pair to scrounge that from and pop it in with Loctite you'll have a great pair of pedals.

No. The release tension is really low and not adjustable, even with the regular cleats swapped. Fine on MTB but I wouldn't ride brakless with them. The xc8 (and maybe 6?) You can tighten the release up with a little screw and they feel much more like the old aliums.

That's the only time i've had a problem in a cross race, think it was all the clay in that mud.

uh.
And to think I've sold at least one 'spare' pairs of old-but-awesome atacs.

Has anyone tried the ATAC Link model
Can't see any reviews, think they must be pretty new as I've never known TIME to do flats/cleat combos. Looking for something for touring bike. They seem quite expensive compared to Shimano equivalent but would mean I won't have to change cleats for my commuter.

Where to get Ceramic bearing for xs version

What is the recommended Time Atac pedal these days? Looking for something probably in the XC range or similar. Googling suggests the Time quality is not what it was. Are Mavic versions any better?

@chris0 @GwGs
there's a MKS Urban Step-In pedal which is flat / ATAC.
it's my favourite pedal, really smooth and nice. but I hadn't used the clipless side for ages and tried the other day and just kept messing up, but I think that was user error. I did use them when I first got them no problem but just been using the flat side for a couple years.
they're really expensive though. and the tension bolt/washer falls out really easily, so I tape mine up... but they're still my favourite pedals.
Edit: maybe discontinued... used to have them on SJS but not anymore.
Edit2: I did figure out my clipping in user error, and it was that I kept catching the front of the cleat on the rear wire and trying to clip into the body of the pedal instead of between the wires. I think before because I was more used to clipping into Aliums I put my foot in the right place automatically. But I am just not used to clipping in these days. -

Think I've got a set of those MKS ones somewhere if you're interested.

TIME quality certainly did have a dip for a few years. It seems to have gone back up again though, as they were bought by Rossignol and moved pedal production to a new factory, apparently specifically to address the quality issues over the past couple years.
I've got some new Xpressos recently and they are way nicer than the version from a couple years ago. better bearings, finishing quality etc.
If you are riding fixed i'd recommend XC6 or above, as the XC4/XC2 don't have tension adjustment and are quite loose.
Mavic are just rebranded TIME, they're exactly the same. -

Has anyone managed to (re)fit one of these to an Atac before (I have no idea how it came out but it doesn't seem to be broken..)
... a screwdriver and a hammer only got it past the first spring end, so it's now half stuck on the inner spring..
-
• #1172
i think you'll need something strong to pry open the spring loaded lever, and patience ahh

What's the judgment on the new round of pedals? Worth buying or isit back to the bay for 15 year old aliums/originals
-
• #1174
Yes

Anyone else had issues with the XC6 recently? I've had 2 sets snap on the left pedal in exactly the same way within the last 6 months. Odd, as I had a set of the older ones on previous bikes for over 3 years without any issues. Also should say in both cases the pedals have just been used on my daily commuting bike, so no undue stress as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't really inspire confidence...
Yeah I agree, it confused the hell out of me. To be fair though it isn't that hard to confuse me.
